a couple thousand kids can go to school now. Women can ??? (I can't remember some bullshit about not having to wear burkas anymore) Irrational and untrue "factoids" about how things are now vs. when Saddam was in charge, spewed out with the fantastic wingnut geographical "knowledge" that all Middleastern/SE Asian countries are the same. And that Iraq was not a secular and fairly "liberal" (in terms of education, medicine, women etc - NOT politically) They project EVERYTHING. Their descriptions of how it WAS is much closer to how it IS and vice. It really is a lookingglass universe to these people.

Oh and some soldiers painted a hospital and gave some kids candy and coloring books. The photos of that got sent to me to "prove" it wasn't all bad.:eyes:

edited to add nut to wing

3. Why don't they name a bunch for us to go "awww" about?
Every time a school reopens, they act like it's the kids' first time going, even though they're obviously middle class, cleanly uniformed little "fortunate ones".

8. Muggers taking credit for their victims' recovery.
As Iraqis rebuild Fallujah, the US will probably claim credit for "urban renewal." It's detestible spin. Despite the opression and hardship in Iraq prior to March 2003, they're STILL worse off than before then. Only 4 hours of electricity each day, lack of functioning water and sewage systems, 50% unemployment (as the US imports labor), and a host of other hardships. Yeah... we sure did CREATE a lot of opportuinty to "do good" (by repairing just some of the destruction we've wrought, or merely standing around while the Iraqis do.)

5. Ok, some students are in school in some locations
using magic markers. The rest of the country is being blown up with very effective explosives. Ummmm....there is oil in the country as evidenced by the wells that are blown up. Roads and bridges are intact, I think. There was an election, well sort of. And there are people still alive in the green zone who are supposed to be working on a constitution but so far they haven't really done shit.

11. Didn't the mayor of Baghdad get kicked out by a group of armed thugs?
And aren't there chronic power outages across...ummm Baghdad, and how about a reliable and sanitary supply of water? And isn't it a life risking escapade to travel from the airport into Baghdad? And isn't Baghdad the capitol? Shouldn't things be better there already? I'm just asking?

If this was Washington DC, I don't think Americans would be very happy with the conditions there. I'm just saying.

15. Shhhh! We don't want the public to know that we support theocracy.
That is, we don't until it is so established in the U.S. that what the public thinks won't matter.

So we have to accept Islamic theocracy in Iraq, at least it's theocracy.

21. OK...let's talk about all the good things...
Give us a few examples... They build a school once every 12 months. They kill a GI once every 12 hours. How many times would we need to re-ren the "good" news? They don't have to re-reun the dead GI stories. They are up to the minute.

23. Becuause if you are an American with a camera and venture out of the
Green Zone, to shoot the "good things" like say, for FOX News,...you have a real good chance of not making it back to the Green Zone to file your story.
