They just showed the Woodstock movie before that. He is doing interviews with them.

was recently released. I heard him interviewed on NPR. Cavett says, although he never really made an effort to do so, he became the interviewer to the rock stars. He had more rock musicians on his show than anyone else. His interviews with Lennon and Ono are famous.

9. Actually, They Were on Both

Actually, John and Yoko were on Dick Cavett's show twice, and I remember them both somewhat, and especially remember one appearance where they did that incredible, thrilling song, a revelation to me then, "Woman is the Nigger of the World," with those lyrics; and they talked so beautifully of feminism and the oppression and wisdom of women. The resurgence of feminism was still new then, 1971. They also talked--I remember, and anyone else old enough who also loved them may also remember--about trying to find Yoko's daughter Kyoko, who they thought had been kidnapped by Yoko's first husband. They searched for many months, but it turned out Kyoko was okay and happy there. I wish this one appearance I really remember was on video. I miss John, and John and Yoko as a couple; they were brilliant.

2. FYI - the others are members of Jefferson Airplane

They are Paul Kantner, Spencer Dryden (the guy with the hat), and Jack Casady (the guy with the long blond hair).

They're all sitting with their backs to the camera, facing Cavett.

And at the end of the broadcast they performed "We Built This City." And the spirit of the 60's died in that single moment.;)

15. Another Cavett with Joplin

I remember a wild Cavett program with Joplin, Racquel Welch, Chet Huntley (the great one on that Huntley-Brinkley news team, with that asshole David Brinkley) and maybe another guest, when the topic turned to the then-current Viet Nam war, as it so often did then. Can't remember specific remarks anymore, but a real sense of tension. Joplin and Racquel Welch on opposite sides of the issue, and I think Joplin and Huntley agreeing at one point.
