I had to take my daughter to get some back to school stuff today
Ended up in a mall in Texarkana.
Sat on a bench with the baby while she was sleeping.
Two white men (thirtiesh) sat behind me. Looked the part of fundie freepers. I heard them talking and that's what they were. Every now and again they would interrupt their church talk to talk about somebody that walked by (always a black person).
There was this young black man--couldn't have been more than 20 had 3 kids in tow. All 3 kids were neat, clean, had nice clothes and were very well behaved. This man touched his kids in such a loving way--you would have had to see the gentleness this man (who I consider a kid himself) showed these boys. For me, the thought that ran through my head first off was that it was nice to see such a young man taking care of his kids (you have to understand the father of my granddaughter doesn't give a damn).
These assholes behind me said in something that resembled ebonics "Heyyyyy dat dog got him some pups". I was appalled.
I sat there and the more I thought about it, the madder I got. Finally I just stood up and just said before I left "I wonder if you would say the same thing if that was a white man with 3 kids?".
They looked kind of embarrassed, but as I walked away, I heard them laughing.
Nothing matters to some of these jerks.:(

1. Thats a horrific story, it doesn't suprise me, I ve been witness to
similar events. It always blows me away when I hear people trying to say that racism died in the sixties and they should get over it, most GOPers are heavily against the civil rights movement believing it be nothing more than a waste of tax payers money and unfair to the white man..crazy..

2. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves...
because they're such losers.

Their own kids are probably such ill-bred inbred monsters they can't take them out in public.

3. When people aren't quite certain what race you are,
they will sometimes embarass themselves and say things usually only caucasians would be privy to.

I've had people say horrible racist things, in my presence assuming I'm something other than what I am. :puke:

My hair stylist has had the same thing happen to her.

Thanks for sharing this, Horse with no name. It's always amazing to me that in some cases the more things change, the more they stay the same.

like the stereotype they entertain).

9. Such a fun club to belong to--
having your race question your ethnicity because you look a bit different, speak in an unexpected way and you don't share interests that others of the culture may not be particularly fond of.

Hi, Cleita!
:hi:

as the feeling I am getting that we are backsliding.

12. You aren't the only one that feels this way.
I do as well...

I truly feel that this administration has opened a floodgate of what some deem as acceptable intolerance/hatred. An Administration that has made it quite clear that it depised homosexuals and wants to deny them rights, is giving our country permission to openly hate anyone that is different.

I also feel that this administration has declared war on women and women's rights.

They want to take away everything so many before us worked so hard to give us.

14. My daughter and I had this conversation in the car
that Bush is undoing so much that was good in such a short time.
I feel there is so much hate around me when I go out in public.
I fear that before this is over...there will be blood spilled in our country inflicted from Americans to Americans.

18. omg--me too...
I am frequently afraid to go out in public. Sometimes I feel I am being paranoid. But honestly, with the reports of the kinds of things people seem to feel comfortable doing these days (racist, intolerant acts of violence, etc.)I am very careful about what areas I visit alone.

Probably sounds silly, but it's true.

This presidency has done so very little that could be viewed as positive. It's primarily 'undone' a great deal.

21. I agree 100%
Chimp and the neocons have made it acceptable to be racist, homophobic, woman hating, and, in general ok to hate. Yes, they are taking away what we have fought long and hard for, and offer, instead, constant war and laws which benefit corporations over citizens.

Even their version of religion is hateful. There are so many good, caring people of many faiths, working to try to unite people, regardless of how, or if, they worship, but Chimp has endorsed a fundamentalist version of Christianity that has no resemblance to the United Methodist teachings I grew up with.

Even now, he has brought about what will be hell to millions of Iraqi women, since it is clear that the new government of Iraq will end up being another conservative theocracy. We should be a country which is going forward, developing alternative, renewable sources of energy, providing schools which teach science, not theology, and using the money being poured into the bottomless pit of war, into the infrastructure of our country.

The neocons have ensured that unless you are mega-wealthy, the world they are working toward is one which will be hostile to all that was once good in our country. They lie, and the rest of us die.

4. Some humans ain't human
by John Prine

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
A few frozen pizzas
Some ice cubes with hair
A broken Popsicle
You don't want to go there

Some humans ain't human
Though they walk like we do
They live and they breathe
Just to turn the old screw
They screw you when you're sleeping
They try to screw you blind
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

You might go to church
And sit down in a pew
Those humans who ain't human
Could be sittin' right next to you
They talk about your family
They talk about your clothes
When they don't know their ass
From their own elbows

Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony
Jealousy and stupidity
Don't equal harmony

Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm

Have you ever noticed
When you're feeling really good
There's always a pigeon
That'll come shit on your hood

Or you're feeling your freedom
And the world's off your back
Some cowboy from Texas
Starts his own war in Iraq

Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind
They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
You open up their hearts
And here's what you'll find
Some humans ain't human
Some people ain't kind

Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm
Mmmm Mmmm

10. It seems to me that those who are so ignorant are becoming
bolder since * got into office. Those jerks are so mean & hateful; they fit into *'s support base rather well. *'s pathetic & shameful attitude has poisoned and/or perpetuated his supporters' attitudes.

This administration breeds so much hatred & has divided this country in so many ways that I wonder how we'll ever be able to recover, and, ironically, * has been courting African American votes through the clergy. He wants their votes (probably using taxpayers' money for bribes), yet he hasn't attended one NAACP conference -- an unprecedented move by the president.

A good leader would make every attempt to unite the country & to instill ethics & brotherhood through his words & actions. Instead, he prefers to unravel all the progress that's been made.

15.  BushCo set the tone
with their belligerence and dogged determination to drag us back to the dark ages. all of their so-called programs are simply thin disguises to accomplish exactly the opposite of whatever they are named.

hand in glove w/ the rw racist preachers, pundits and 'think' tanks, these folks are conniving in every possible way to cut everyone off at the knees except their own robber baron class.

i said as soon as * was elected that minorities were going to be figuratively, if not actually ,( and i'm sure they would like that ) sent to the back of the bus. Too bad there are those in the administration who delight in helping them.... Condi, Elaine Chao, to name a couple.

the Dems that run the party had better get their act together and QUICK!!!

by starting his campaign in Phildelphia Mississippi practically on the spot where the Civil Rights wokers were murdered.

Now that the damned liberals are out of office, they can go back to "sayin' what needs to be said."

11. Wow...reminds me of a story (in PA)
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 12:36 AM by friesianrider
And I don't much consider PA a hotbed for racism, but nonetheless..

Was in a Agway-type store (for those that don't know, it's like a hardware store that sells feed and such for horses) in PA, only about an hour from Philadelphia. Some white guy with a big cowboy hat was talking - pretty loudly - to a friend who worked in the crowded store. He said something along the lines of "well, it's a shame there's so many fucking n***ers moving in around here now." And the guy he was talking to who worked at the store heartily agreed saying "I know there's some c**ns living a few doors up from me so the wife and I got a security system as soon as they came to introduce themselves." I was FLOORED, and my mouth was just gaping open. I walked up to him and said how dare he use such foul and offensive language in a public space (let alone at ALL) and complained to the manager about the employee and said he should be fired or I'd never shop there again. This poor black family came to introduce themselves to their neighbors like any other normal fucking human being would, and this racist piece of shit had that response.

Absolutely fucking SICKENING. Sick, sick, sick. Pisses me off so much that people are still like this.
