An Observation On A Sunday Morning

The road we live on services 5 more houses after ours and terminates at an intersection with a rarely-used semi-paved path that wonders off into the woods. At the road's end there is a church.

On Sunday mornings we get little traffic. The boys up the road are probably still hung over from last night and the other 3 houses are owned by older people who don't get out much. There is one lady who comes and checks on two of the older couples every morning and occasionally the son of a neighbor who is now in a nursing home - he mows a little bit. Then there are the church people.

Regular as clockwork every Sunday they make the way up the road starting around 9:00. They'll be coming back down in more or less a rush sometime just after 11:00. The church will usually draw about 20 cars or so. Not a bad turnout.

Yesterday the price of gas hit $2.69 locally. I'll bet there haven't been 3 cars up and down the road in the last 3 hours.
