6. I think we'd get along nicely
Seems all lawmakers want to do is make more laws.

That is why we hire them I suppose.

9. We would be in an even deeper load of shit than we already are
shrub would declare martial law, depending on how they disappeared. Then he would probably invade Iran, insisting that we had secret intelligence that they were involved, and that they were working with Bin Laden.

New elections would probably be postponed, and we'd have a no-bones-about-it dictator on our hands.

Not to mention that would be 536 families with lost loved ones.

12. Before 9-11 I read Tom Clancey's book where the pilot of the B747
crashes into congress and kills everyone. I have to admit I cheered. Today I would grieve for a few - Feingold, Kuchinich, Kennedy etc.

13. You can try anarchy, but it doesn't work out too well
Lawless societies don't work. Look at pretty much every civilization ever in history. If we didn't have our present government, we'd make a new one, because societies create rules by which to govern. There would thus be people who would make said laws, and people who would enforce said laws. Some of these people would be wise and just, and others would be violent bullies on a power trip. In other words, the same as it ever was and always will be as long as human beings populate this earth.

14. Well that's why we have Dick's shadow government.
Also weren't they supposed to be working on something in case of this happening? Governors to appoint until elections, or some such thing?

so why wouldn't we?

CBC locks out employees
15 Aug 2005
CBC News
http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/08/14/CBC_locks_out_employees20050815.html

The CBC locked out about 5,500 employees at 12:01 a.m. Monday after no substantial progress was made in last-minute bargaining between Canada's largest broadcaster and its union, the Canadian Media Guild.

The workers have been without a contract for more than a year, with the CBC saying it needs more flexibility to hire new staff on a contract basis instead of full-time.

The CMG, which represents producers, newsroom staff and technicians, says 30 per cent of the CBC's workforce is already non-permanent, giving the network all the flexibility it needs.

A funny thing happened on the way to registering the CBCunplugged.com domain...
Turns out a number of locked-out producers have been working on a podcast/news site of their own and they'd planned to call it -- go ahead, guess -- CBC Unplugged. Great minds think alike I guess.
Rather than cause confusion, I'm going to hand the domain over to them and let them run with their own service. So as of next week, CBCunplugged.com will be managed by a different group of people.
Stay tuned, they have some exciting things planned!

20. won't make any difference
new equivalents of 'legislators' would take their place, and they would be as corrupt and greedy. after all, they will come from the people. unless society changes for the better, politicians will remain polishitians.
