Not covered in this report - But - as the news unfolded - he backed off when it broke that the CIA forced the language out of a presidential speech the previous October, and after that news outing - Stephen Hadly, then Condi's number two in the NSA took the fall stating that he had failed to adequately vet the pres.'s sotu speech. Where is Hadley now? I believe he is the head of the NSA.

Also in the claims that all admins politicize intel - and this one no more so than others (even with the claim that some in the CIA were so gungho that they didn't need political pressure) - that, unless I missed it, Cheney's unprecedented multiple trips to Langley were never mentioned.

All in all - a good story to for the public to hear - and good on CNN. But the angle of the "why" - the politicization that leads back to the bushwhite house, was softened on several fronts - by not including info that was covered in the mainstream media at the time.

And re Gen. Colin Powell ... my Vietnam vet friends have never forgotten that as a young officer he wrote the first after-action report on the My Lai massacre, and he was "the good soldier" and "a team player" even back then. He participated in what amounted to a coverup.

I do believe Powell was convinced against his better judgement to make that speech full of lies dressed up as "intelligence" and "evidence." But as someone here said, if he didn't know better, then he damn well SHOULD have known better, and probably suspected the truth in his heart.

What I'd like to see is Powell coming clean NOW ... now that this program has aired on CNN and he is no longer part of the administration. Would also love to hear George Tenet spilling it all.

I doubt either of those things will happen, but an expose by either of them revealing -- or would that be confirming, after this issue of CNN Presents has aired? -- the whole and real truth would be powerful.

I believe the July 31st "original air date" shown in the Yahoo TV Listings page for this program is an error. I suspect that date was planned for the first run but it was postponed for some reason. The reason could have been that CNN wanted to double-check some of the facts they were about to reveal, crossing t's and dotting i's ... or it could be any number of things.

CNN advertised this special pretty heavily so I knew it was going to air and told everyone I could think of about it and suggested they watch. I firmly believe the confluence of four things is going to put the period to the Bush administration:

Cindy's determined demand for answers from W turning into an anti-war, anti-Bush rally that is is drawing many others to her side.

The toll being taken by those serving in the military in Iraq, and the new FX channel TV show "Over There" showing everyone just what sort of horrors our troops are facing there.

The investigation of Karl Rove and others by Special Prosecutor Fitgerald; and

The price of gasoline going through the roof, never to drop into the cheap range again.

in my opinion. The camera shots they had of Tenet were devastating. They made a big deal out of the "slam dunk" advice he gave Bush, but McLaughlin said he thought Tenet meant something different from what has been reported in the media. Powell asked what if we march thru the entire country of Iraq and don't find any WMDs? They did mention the DSM and the fact that the intelligence was fixed around the facts. They did not not how the Niger "uranimum" line was put into the SOTU speech by Bush?

Overall, I would think most commonfolks that were watching will believe that Tenet was the culprit and the Administration will be successful in arguing that it was an "intelligence failure". In point of fact, it was a failure to listen to intelligence and an attempt to fix the intelligence that they wanted. They will attempt to spin it for their followers.

Following a two-hour closed hearing in New York on August 15, a federal judge ordered the government to reveal blacked-out portions of its legal papers arguing against the release of images depicting abuse of detainees at Abu Ghraib. The government has told the court it will not appeal the decision and will release the documents in their entirety sometime next week.

The court will next hear arguments on August 30 to determine whether the Defense Department must release 87 photographs and four videos depicting abuse and torture at Abu Ghraib. In my view, it was a white wash for the crime cabal. I had seen most of the interviews of the main characters of the documentary, months ago on "Democracy Now" presented by Army Goodman, when the Downing Street Memos were being exposed. Folks like Carl Ford, Jr. Assistant Secretary of State. Col. John E. McLaughlin, Former Acting CIA Director. Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, a longtime Powell adviser. Larry Johnson former CIA & David Kay, the CIA WMD Inspector. John Negroponte, the "Death Squad Master". And now junior's main National Intelligence Director.

Not a word about John Bolton that tried to fire Carl Ford Jr. for telling the truth about WMD, but instead Bolton was just recently appointed as the Ambassador to the U.N., while the senate was in recess. What does that tell ya? Not a word about Joe Wilson and his letter to the NY Times about the Niger "Yellow Cake" fiasco or his wife, Valerie Plame, being ousted by the bush administration through a devious plot by Karl Rove.

John Negroponte & George Tentet sitting behind Colin Powell at the U.N. Security Counsel hearings, For God sakes! Negroponte was the man that replaced Jerry Bremer after he pulled out of Badgdad. Mr. Negroponte was an Iran/Contra convict, that was accused of lying to the Senate Investigating Committee in the 80's, a very good friend of Henry Kissinger. bush appointed him as the National Intelligence Director , in control of all the intelligent communities in the U.S. with more power than the FBI. and the C.I.A. combined. What does that tell you? Google him and read all about his atrocities as the "Death Squad Master" as he is referred too.

The administration does know they are failing, so they put out this documentary to put the heat on the Intelligence Community, mainly George Tenet. There was enough red meat for both the right wing and left wing , say, 50 for and 50 against. junior's poll numbers diving downward. If one could have heard all the testimony from the folks in the documentary instead of just snippets and not heard the bias from the voice over, the picture would change and leave no doubt that the intelligence was fixed before the Iraq invasion, and junior's poll numbers would be in the teens or less, with the nation crying for his head.

But the time is coming, when I don't know. Months probably! All I can indeed say, is that Fitzgerald must have a hell of lot on this crime cabal, for them to come out with this fixed documentary.
Am I being too critical? I indeed find it hard to be nonjudgmental of CNN.
