1. It seems that he's been in the process of bailing for quite a while now.
He's been a big critic of the war for some time now.

4. Indeed but after comparing Iraq to Vietnam today...
and this program coming on, the rest of these GOP crooks are going to be stuck in the boat with no liferafts.

7. That wasn't the first time he's made the comparison.
It was the first one that got a lot of media attention, however.

3. Hagel has always been one of those guys I always liked.
My gut tells me he is an honest guy, no matter if there is an R next to his name.

That does not make me a freeper. got it?

9. Unfortunately, he's very conservative.
I disagree strongly with his politics, but I have to give him credit for significantly straying from the Republican script on Iraq.

13. Do you like how he won his elections
He resigned a month or so before announcing for his first senate run from being CEO of ES&S. The figures on that first race were amazing. You wouldn't believe how much of the black vote he got -- think of it: a Republican in Nebraska with something like 80% of the vote in every demographic!! Quite the miracle, wouldn't you say?

The 2nd race wasn't a lot better, but it was a BIT more subtle.

All that info is somewhere online. I'm sure you could google it if you were interested.

And oh -- about your gut. Maybe time for a check-up, eh?

14. Why would that be a miracle?
Do you have any idea how conservative Nebraska is?

Try more than 70% Republican, and close to 100% in some districts. State legislators often get elected and/or re-elected with more than 90% of the vote.

I do not discount the possibility of fraud, but please understand that most Republicans wouldn't even need to bother with it here.

15. I'm cynical about him
I think he's intentionally coming down on the left of prominent pro-war dems- not that his experience *shouldn't* produce such a position and I do welcome the attention he garners for it.

But I don't know that I'd trust him even if he did switch parties. First he'd have to do something like lead the charge AGAINST no-trail voting machines.

16. He won't change parties.
First, he's way too conservative to switch. Most of his non-Iraq positions are rather right of center.

Second, he's from Nebraska. If he has any intention whatsoever of continuing his political career there, he won't switch.

the company ES&S, right? Look it up. There is alot of speculation that his ties to that company got him elected. Considering how far off the exit polls were in his state, one would have to wonder. Just saying.

edit- for my lousy grammer.

17. Hagel for President!
Imagine if we told every puke we knew that we would vote for Hagel, today, because he sees the mess we are in, in Iraq. Imagine.

The pukes would get to know their boy hagel real good and they'd listen to his wisdom on ending the war. Before long the rest of the pukes would be outback puking on the bushes.

I say we start an Elect Hagel campaign. Surely, rove would do something lie that were he in our shoes, eh?

18. You know...that isn't such a terrible idea, but not for the reasons...
you might think.

Hagel could be a serious threat to us in '08. If he started to get a lot of bi-partisan attention, Rove and company would certainly do something to "McCain" him, wouldn't they? :)

23. Certainly
For now we get people awakened to the reality of war and if hag ain't the hand-picked one for 2008 he'll be summarily destroyed by rove. Either way, we win: we get out of Iraq and the bushes burn up trying to hold power.

25. Hagel ...
is one of the few R/Cons who didn't get caught up in the power swell ... He doesn't do a lot of the D/lib bashing most of the other established Rs are into ... Also, he has been on the other side of Iraq for some time now ...

THAT being said, he is a very conservative senator, he won't be switching to D ever ... I also have heard that he has been kind of in the Bushco circle a bit ...

For an R/Con, he isn't tragic ...
