I keep hearing and reading people saying the tide is turning, but I've been hearing that for the last 3 years. I think it's wishful thinking, but as long as the sheeple of America have their MSM and sitcoms, the tide is staying where it is. As long as Americans have their comforts, Bush has power.

a new poll shows his approval #'s at 36%. Even CNN was just talking about that today. If those #'s stay that low, I think it's pretty safe to say the tide has begun to turn.

That doesn't mean that it's a lock that we'll win back the Congress next year, or win back the White House 2008, or get out of Iraq, or get something done about global warming, or get the infrastructure patched back up, or get an independent, intelligent media, or any number of things.

We should have won 2002, we should have won 2004. We didn't. We didn't win because our candidates and platforms were not different enough from the GOP, because our party leadership was more concerned with who ran the party than who ran the country, because the media was still a national embarrassment, and because the other side was better organized and better funded.

Smirk is not the only problem. And the continual focus on Smirk - - rather than the entire GOP - - is going to come back and bite us in the donkey in 2006 and 2008. Because we'll be running weak Dems who still boast they voted for the worst of Smirk's agenda against folks like Hagel and McCain, who have already rebranded themselves as "a different kind of Republican".

By 2006 and 2008 it will be way too late to recast our message from "Smirk is the problem" to "the Republicans are the problem". So there is every reason to be cautious, and continue fighting like we were still at 9/12/02 as far as public opinion is concerned.

Since Bush peaked at 9-11, his ratings have been sinking slowly. Things have gone from bad to worse, and he's losing support accordingly.

Granted, he "won" the election, but aside from that... I'd say as soon as a clear majority of people turned against him, the tide officially was on our side.

All we need is an honest election to throw the bastids out.

That's very very significant. and the polling numbers are showing him tanking so fast - so quickly - it's astonishing really.

but then, since i am the queen of pessimists when it comes to this administration - i expect another 9/11 event will be manufactured very soon - to try and reverse the current statistics.
