A Crawford miracle.
Last night I wrote on my blog "I shouldn't be here" because I have to go back home to find another job after my current contract runs out. I wanted to stay longer, but I simply couldn't afford it.

The people I came here with decided to go back to Asheville at 9:00am today. Unless I could find a way to justify staying here, I'd have to join them. It was breaking my heart.

This morning, while I was brushing my teeth at the Peace House, I got a call on my cell-phone. The caller was a former employer of mine who has been reading my blog to see what's been going on with the protest.

"It seems like such a shame for you to go home when you don't want to just because of money," she said. "I'd be happy to help you out. How much do you need to stay at Camp Casey?"

I gave her the a dollar figure I needed to afford to pay my bills and stay.

"No problem. You stay down there and do what you have to."

:bounce:

The lesson to all DUers is this: Come to Crawford! The Lord is blessing people who make the effort to be here.

###

I will post on regular intervals on DU about what is going on here. Please excuse poor grammar, spelling and punctuation: My own laptop doesn't connect to the internet, so I have to borrow other peoples equipment in order to post. Since am limited on time, I don't get to edit as much as I'd like.

19. The Ft. Qualls people are weird, but they love America
and they are sincerely concerned that our activity might endanger troops lives.

I disagree with them, but I'm hard-pressed to make fun them since it's the parents of a victim of Bush's war that's making Ft. Qualls possible.

Most of the people across from the ditch at Camp Casey, on the other hand, are attention-seeking asshats. I'll write more on this later, but I busted a fake "Iraqi War Vet" two days ago on tape. I'm looking forward top uploading it for the world.

Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 06:21 PM by brainshrub
I'm sure the Camp Qualls people work with the radio station but the Qualls family are the ones with the heart behind the project.

My own opinion is that they will switch to our side before long. I've meet three Republicans and two "independents" since I've been here.

Liberals have to remember that not everyone here is Progressive.

50. If you TALK with the Ft. Qualls people, they will see you are actually
people. That's the flaw with the RW demonizing people, actual experience and contact will cause a conflict between the demonic stereotype and reality.

Any experiences like this?

15. I will see you tomorrow night!
I am so excited to be coming back. Last week we could only stay for a day and the next morning. This time I have 2 days, LOL. A lot of driving for such little time but it repays better than anything I have ever done. Are you in the Peace House most of the time? If you get a chance PM me please. My husband and I will be in Waco sometime tomorrow depending on how early we get out of here since it only all came together about an hour ago. My clothes from last week are still packed but dirty so I must get that done pronto. If you are arranging anything have a couple of jobs waiting for us, K? We are coming to work.

I am so happy for you. Good things seem to happen to good people doing good work.

Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 05:58 PM by brainshrub
When you get to the Peace House, look at the bulletin board. You will see a large "DUers call 555-555-5555"

That is my cell-phone number.

I will be the guy wearing a light green "Garmin" base-ball cap.

37. Second that. I received assistance from DU'ers I never met for my trip.
They were wonderful and I wouldn't have made the trip without their help.

Furthermore, my husband was freaking out about the travel costs...it turned out that one of our bills was a major overcharge that we easily (!) corrected and then we were fine for the month.

I agree wholeheartedly, this is the RIGHT thing to do and life seems to accomodate time spent in this endeavor.

40. That is wonderful news, and what a great story! Please tell your
employer how thankful we all are for your posts from Camp Casey, and for making your presence there possible on behalf of the millions of people who love peace and who believe that peace is possible. Imagine a government with a positive vision, that is working for peace and justice in the world, on behalf of all Americans. Wouldn't that be something! It's so heartening to know that that's what the majority of Americans want. I know that very deeply--not just from numerous statistics that overwhelmingly back it up, but also in my heart, what I can feel about my fellow Americans. And stories like yours are just more confirmation. We are a good and generous country, and the good and the generous will prevail! Thank you for your part in what is going to be the most amazing peace movement in our history!
