What I DIDN'T see at Camp Casey

Many of you have done great jobs describing the mood, events, and spirit of Camp Casey this weekend. It was a profound experience for me...the most moving memories I have from conversations with other protesters. Mothers of avtive servie people who flip out whenever their doorbells ring...Gold Star family members...and veterans from every US war & "police action" but WW1.

What I would like to see at Camp Casey are some American Iraqis. Surely they have a vested interest in Peace, and stories to tell about THEIR famliles. I also find it odd that no Dem politicos have stopped in...what's with that?

Not complaining. Just wishing.

1. I would imagine that any anti-establishment Iraqi's are keeping quiet.

4. Atty General candidate David Van Os was there

with his wife Rachel, but I didn't see any current office holders. I htink they still see it as risky, since the right is working so hard to portray Cindy and us supporting her as wackos.

5. There were American Iraqis there last Sunday (Aug 14)

There was a luncheon at The Peace House with Cindy, guests were Iraqis and Iranians. They gave very passionate speeches against the war, and the good people at the Peace House cooked and served all of us delicious middle-eastern food.

So they were there in support, just not staying at Camp Casey. :hi:

10. We had an Iraqi woman

who is a citizen of the US speak at our vigil last week. She was just wonderful. She asked us to keep fighting for her family and the people of Iraq, that there would never be democracy there as long as they are an occupied country. Her family is there and she said they have about an hour of power a day. Times are hard for them and they are wealthy and live in the suburbs so it's even harder to the average Iraqi citizen. Just put it all in perspective about what we have done to their country.
