What are our Senate and House chances?
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 06:19 PM by BayCityProgressive
Do we have a chance of taking back or making gains int he house and senate? In my view it isn't enough to merely make gains. To slow the right wing machine we will have to take one of the chambers back.

1. I don't think we'll take back either house
but I do think we'll pick up seats and narrow the gap

2. It's too early to tell...
Bush's approval ratings are TANKING. It might just be a matter of time, before the Republican Congress starts to get dragged down by him, and his incessant failures. I think a lot of them are already trying to distance themselves from him. If this keeps up, then it bodes well for us. We need a shift in the mood of the electorate to pick off either, or both houses of Congress. Just fighting like hell to win a select few seats that COULD swing the majority, might not be enough.

4. Repubs are going to attack more intensely than before
I'm sure this will be the most negative set of campaigns in Republican history. They know if they lose their majority that we will be pushing for impeachment, not to mention we will pursue justice on a very large list of scandals. They will be fighting for their political life. Unfortunately I think people have had enough of the smears, and that will make the smear campaign ineffective.

5. Better than they were a year ago. Bush is in self-destruct mode and the
question is will the GOP abandon him? Some party members already have and others will follow.

8. Zero. US elections are all rigged Stalin-style.
We won't win anything ever until Diebold, Sequoia, and ES&S are put out of business. Period.

9. Odds
The Senate is a long shot. We could pull close.

The House is a three legged horse in the Kentucky Derby

16. Nice site, but I think a little optimistic
RICK SANTORUM is called a "pick up" seat

It's going to be a lot closer than many people on our side of the aisle think.

15. Last month, I might have shared
the guarded pessimism (or restrained optimism) I see on this thread. But I truly believe that we have reached and PASSED a Tipping Point. And here's what triggered it:

17. I like the odds

but I'd only lay money on them next spring or next summer.

The Right Wing machine is already grinding gears and blowing gaskets. It's not doing much of anything at the moment for all the noise...and the giant clouds of Stupidity emerging from the radiator.

The most important thing to winning Congress next year is Democrats overcoming their own obsolete idiot tendencies (see under Biden, Lieberman, Hillary Clinton) to live in the past. We're supposed to be the Party that is Modern, astute, intelligent...that's what The People expect and want.
