Gary Qualls just lied for what reason?
I respect that people have the right to grieve in whatever way they choose to, but that does not give them a shield to lie and slander someone.

Gary Qualls, who has lost a child in Iraq, just said on Countdown that Cindy did not give him the time of day and hung up on him when he called her, which he felt was disrespectful to "the parent of another fallen soldier." If that were true, I would agree. The problem is that a picture tells a thousand words.

Now, every appearance I have seen of Cindy and when I have spoken to her, she has never attacked other grieving parents. She simply feels that they have the right to be there and she does not attack them. Qualls just went on the air and said that a). she has a political agenda, b). she disrespected another fallen hero, his son and c). that the people supporting her (he did not specify whom) were not the kind of people to speak for him or the kind who his kids would have been allowed to associate with. So, 1 and 2 of his argument can be addressed with the below photo, in that by showing that he a) lied that it is in fact he b). who has a political agenda.

Again, I am not attempting to tell anyone how to grieve, but I will not stomach yet what appears to be another Bush deflection tool. Like Condi's color, and Abu Gonzo's ethnicity, so it seems that Bush has found himself a grieving father - who can stand there and lie, but not be criticized because he is a "parent."

11. Yes it's the best they could do. Your average educated, rich Repug isn't
going to have their kids go to die in Iraq.

8. My thoughts on this are
He's being used now by powers that oppose the anti-war movement. He fell into the spotlight when he met with Cindy and someon grabbed him up thinking he could be turned into a decent counter tool. I, personally, disagree with their choice, but time will tell how much mileage they can squeeze out of this man.

12. Swiftboating of Cindy by the media is in full swing

The creation of "Fort Qualls" by rightwing radio personality Dan Ankarlo is a great example of news being invented rather than reported. Ankarlo who has pushed the idea of "Fort Qualls" to further his own radio career is the handler behind Mr. Gary Qualls. The mainstream media has decided to promote the idea. At no time, has this so-called fort had more than a dozen followers--usually only two protesters have showed up there. So why are the shows like Anderson Cooper, Olberman and all the Sinclair Broadcasting affiliates promoting it as if it were a full-fledged opposition camp? Because they hope to create an opposition, that's why.

The Sinclair Affiliates have 100 polls up asking which of the camps you support? The mom's antiBush, antiwar Camp Casey or the proBush, prowar Fort Qualls. 100 polls!

18. Ankarlo has one thing in mind
Using Cindy Sheehan to further his career in the way that Rush Limpballs used Bill Clinton.
He is a parasite. An opportunist.

What was the point in lying? Freepers support * at any cost, including their integrity and character. They're not worth a damn.

15. Qualls apparently said he'd gladly sacrifice his whole family
for Bushco's Bogus Adventure. Which resonates in a really weird way. I remember reading quotes from the parents of young Palestinian suicide bombers who said exactly the same thing, and thinking, "My God--what maniacs!" Of course, Qualls' dilemma is the obvious one; he pushed his kids into the military, filled their heads with jingoistic Republican crap, told them Bush was a great leader, and now his son is dead. He can either admit that he and his stupid politics are partly to blame, or he can wave his stubby little pecker around and call everyone that thinks Bush and the war are stupid a traitor. I feel badly for him, in a way--he can't be sleeping all that well at night.

19. I notice that
the people on the far right keep refering to Cindy as associating with "extremists." Every poll shows that about 60% of the population is opposed to the president's policy in Iraq. Thus, but the statistical definition, Cindy is representative of the mainstream. Bush is in the minority, and he demonstrates daily that he lacks the capacity to adjust in his thinking.

When I see a parent who is suffering from the loss of an adult child, who sacrificed their life in the military, even if I disagree strongly with their political views, I would never insult them. I would not seek to degrade their beliefs. It is an obscene form of intolerance that we are witnessing today in America, attacking Cindy. Gandhi said that intolerance betrays a want of faith in one's cause. We see proof today.

20. Qualls is actually quite inarticulate
and Keith did an excellent job of sitting back and letting him demonstrate that. There were times when he didn't know how to counter what Keith said, and there was an uncomfortable silent stretch because he had NO comeback.
