Question: How do the Freepers explain away the veterans with Cindy?

1. they were the ones who threw their medals away like Kerry,
and then went all hippy-like when they came home from 'nam.

6. Laura Ingraham was on this very point today
Her "guest", Howard Fineman, was saying that the military and military families were mostly "for the mission".

My immediate reaction was, "Are these the troops that are GOING to Iraq or coming BACK from Iraq?"

'Cause the ones that are coming back are telling disturbing stories.

9. It is exactly like Vietnam. The difference between the VietNam Vet and
the VietNam Era Vet. I live in a retired military community (Air Force.)

There are a lot of VietNam Era Vets that are still fighting the VietNam war. Most all of the VietNam Vets I know want no part of war.

10. My husband is a Vietnam era vet...worked at BAMC with burn
patients, as in burned horribly in Vietnam.

He wants nothing to do with this current war, and has plenty of unhappiness about the Vietnam conflict.

He stayed in the Army for years after and is proud of his time serving badly injured soldiers returning from the front.

As I said, he is disgusted by the current "war" in Iraq and has no desire to see it continue.

So, not all of these soldiers are "still fighting the Vietnam War."

I think your husband fought on a front of that war, though.
And I honor what he did.

12. Well, the bunch here is. Not Army, but as I stated Air Force. I got
emails about the Anti-Clinton Library all the time until that group folded. Now I get them about Jane Fonda and how they forced her to back out of her bus tour. Revenge after 40 years. No matter how many times that I email them about the VA and how it is being marginized, they come back with some crap about how wonderful Bush is for fighting the fight over there.

13. This is the eternal disconnect...

One the one hand, you have Victory, Vanquishing the Foes of America and Our Noble Cause...

On the other hand, you hear about the actual experiences of soldiers in the field.

One of the most haunting books I've ever read was called 'Nam. It was all about the true, candid experiences of guys who had served in Vietnam. It was brutal, bloody, hilarious and deeply, deeply disturbing.

They told of unimaginable scenes of depravity, cruelty and violence committed by both sides of that bloody war.

In the end, the soldiers were basically ignored, left to their personal demons.

I remember one guy telling the story about how he was gradually turned into an efficient killing machine, only to be discharged at the end of his tour. He wondered how he could "turn himself off" and return to "normal" society. How could you deal with people who pissed you off without an M16 in your hands? It was so easy in 'Nam.

Anyways, that's my rant.

3. Yes, actually.
Look at what they've said about Cleland and Kerry and Clark and any other veteran who isn't one of them. Don't forget -- the Rethuglicans think they OWN the military, the flag, and all things patriotic. Therefore, any military person who doesn't support them must necessarily be some sort of phony, or a turncoat, or both.

4. Democrat Veterans...
and their families are not Patriotic and therefore do not count as real veterans or soldiers. All true "Troops" are Republicans who Love President Bush!

5. Good question ben.........

I think they don't think. They just exclude any negative input from their brains. Veterans that join Cindy do not register. I understand the Right Wing Mentality is absolutely a Defective Personality Trait. I firmly believe these folks need to get some help, some form of treatment for the abuse they suffered somewhere in their upbringing. My thing is I really can't cut them any slack anymore, I am right in their faces, because they are destroying my country........but more importantly they are destroying my Children's' Country.

7. It doesn't compute, so it is ignored
Too taxing for their two brain cells to process, ya know. They revert to what they do best besides ranting:

8. They were drinking beer when they were wounded. They once saw
a movie with Jane Fonda in it. They are "staff pukes." They hide behind a uniform. They're wimps. They're unpatriotic. Name it, and they have a reason not to support the troops if they don't agree with the Chickenhawks.
