I heard that 1 out of 5 people have been laid off since Chimpy stole office. Is that right? Yikes!

That would put the unemployed at 20% of the nominal work force. It is more like 10%, so it is 1 in 10.

In certain industries, such as engineering, manufacturing, and IT, the numbers are more like 1 in 2.

1 in 5 may have been laid off with a portion of that percentage able to find new work, thus they wouldn't be counted in the unemployment numbers. I don't know the real answer though.

The current number of unemployed and underemployed is approximately 18 million....which is a hell of a lot of people. Some of those that have been laid off over the course of the last 2 1/2 years have found other similar employment, however, there is still a growing number of people that are losing their jobs.

The job situation in our country is a major, major problem for our economy. It was reported today that the Fed might lower rates again in an effort to stimulate the economy. The current rate is 1% so there is not much ammunition left....it's hard to drop the rate below zero.

10. more proof - we don't need a general to beat bush

it's the economy. it's jobs. it'd be dumb to nominate a general who has never held any elected office.
