RW talking point du jour. Iraq War causing a schism among DEMS.
Now, as we have discussed ad nauseum here on DU, I think there IS a schism... between actual Dem/liberals (us) and Dem elected officials, who by and large will not renounce the invasion and occupation.

But this talking point conveniently ignores people like Hagel and Jones calling the thing a disaster that must be ended. If you are hit up with this most recent talking point, be sure to point out people like Hagel who are clearly at odds with "stay the course" shrubco.

2. If all the Repubs have is
that there is not complete unanimity in the opposition party on how to fix one of the several messes they created, then, in the words of the great philosopher Jon Stewart, "They got nothin'."

3. I guess my point was, the most notable SCHISM is within Repub
elected officials, with people like Chuck Hagel desparate to get the stench of Iraqnam off of him.

With the Dems I see the schism as between the bulk of prominent Dem officeholders and the rest of us, with maybe Feingold as a notable exception.

4. There is going to be an even bigger schism
among Dems when the rest of the Abu Grhaib photos are released. Congress has seen those photos, few Dems have made it an issue. When the public sees them people are going to want to know why they were kept secret for so long...

5. I think they will know
why the administration has kept them secret--the same reason Nixon wanted his tapes kept secret, i.e. it reveals their guilt.

When are they to be released?

The White House also sued to have the documents explaining why they didn't want the photos released kept from the public. They lost that one, and apparently are not going to appeal. So I bet we see the photos before the end of the year. Then those Dems who had firsthand knowledge of what was in those photos are going to have some explaining to do.

edit-Oh and a belated Welcome To DU :toast:

8. Thanks
It will probably be game over for this administration when the photos are released--they should give the lie to the whole "few bad apples" line.

7. I agree
and remember Republican House of Representatives members Walter Jones, of North Carolina, and Ron Paul of Texas, who have hooked up with Kucinich and others against the war.

The rats have been fleeing the sinking ship for several months now.
