I never thought I'd say these words.
But as a liberal, I find myself condemning California and supporting the CIA.

:wtf:

Anyone else feel like we're so far through the fucking looking glass it's in front of us now?

3. Davis out, Schwartzenegger in?
If that doesn't prove the current idiocy of the state, I don't know what does. It's total bullshit.

Of course, I'm pretty jaded and cynical when it comes to the public anyway.

9. Arnold is NOT in yet, goddammit! It's lame BS like this that's gonna...
put him in. Don't dis the California voters -- the media is working very hard to annoint Arnold. Everything you're hearing is coming through their filter -- so don't believe it!

And what are you doing to ensure that the recall is turned back? Have you volunteered? Have you donated some $$$? Are you contacting people you know who might be on the fence or who don't usually vote?

This thing is serious, and it has to be fought fang and claw, down to the end.

By the way, welcome to DU -- :toast:

10. There is still a chance. There's still a week to go
I was just reading this in the Washington post:

Huffington Drops Out Of Race in California
Independent Now Backs Davis's Effort to Keep Job

By Rene Sanchez
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, October 1, 2003; Page A10

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30 -- Arianna Huffington, the political provocateur who has roiled California's recall election with stinging attacks against her rivals on the ballot, quit the race tonight and vowed to spend the final days of the campaign denouncing actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and urging voters to keep Gov. Gray Davis (D) in office.

Huffington's decision is a sign of the anxiety spreading among many liberals in California that the recall movement, led by Republicans, may succeed in part because their votes are splintered among several candidates. Her supporters and those of the Green Party's Peter Miguel Camejo are a small fraction of the electorate. But their votes could be crucial if the Oct. 7 election is close.

<snip>

Together, Huffington and Camejo are drawing the support of about 6 percent of voters questioned in recent polls. But some polls also have suggested that Davis may need only that much more of the electorate to survive the recall.

"It might seem like just a sliver of the electorate," said Mark Baldassare, the polling director of the nonpartisan Public Policy Institute of California, "but it could be a significant one. In a close election, they could make a big difference."

14. Blame voter fraud and media propaganda
Californians have not lost their minds, (except the rednecks and fundie assholes in Southern Cal., maybe) It's the RW media, like it always is. DO NOT believe the crap you read in ANY mainstream media...they own it all.

5. They look like they're fusing fantasy with reality. And LIZARDS.
THEY'VE GOT LIZARDS.

Beyond that, they look like they're going to fall for a movie actor again. It may be pessimistic, but my belief regarding elections is the best one-liner wins the election, provided the image differential isn't too big. Rarely are the two so fused as they are with the Terminator.

11. Me, too
and I live in CA. I think people have gone f*cking insane if they want to turn control of the 5th largest economy in the world over to the Terminator.

No offense to surfers, skaters and dudes that spend the day playing video games but THIS IS NOT A MOVIE where problems are solved by breaking a lot of glass.

12. Um surfers are very politically active
Really...we were the first real environmentalists in the state....really...promise......that shit that flows to the sea when you flush...we were the ones that started measuring the bacteria count in it after repeated eye and ear infections...now the government actually keeps track of it.

16. Ooops
Sorry about that. I agree. My son is a surfer. He's not particularly political but does think the recall is whacked. And he will go and vote against it. Some of his friends think it's cool that Ah-nold will be governor, though.

17. I also believe that the media
is trying to make it look like Arnold has it to discourage people from voting. I commend Ariana for getting out - maybe it'll help. I still have hope.

Maybe when you get to a "certainb age" (51) the natural changes in the world finally start to catch up with you.

But it has definetly felt like "through the looking glass" time for at least two years.

20. Tell me about it
I found myself a few weeks ago in the unenviable position of agreeing with something Chris Matthews said. He had some people all on screaming at each other about the recall, and then he interrupted everyone and said, "You know what the best thing is about the California recall election? It'll be over on October 7th."

Amen.

Now I feel dirty and violated.
