Is the Biblical Prophecy Endangering the World?
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 09:30 AM by mopaul
those who adhere to literalism regarding the book of revelations actually, truly believe that the end of the world is not only near, but necessary to bring about the return of the 2000 year dead icon.

are we going to let them get away with bringing about this prophecy?

2. Are idiots endangering the world?
My guess is yet.

I'm not sure i'd blame the bible for that, but if you want to, go right ahead.

8. I'm just in favor of federal bible regulation
We need to register all bible users, and give them a license to carry a concealed bible. Bibles at home must be stored within an approved bible cabinet. They may not use a bible within city limits, and there will be no urban sneech hunting with semi-automatic or assault bibles.

There will be a website where you can go to see if bible predators are living in your neighborhood.

And any kid who brings a bible to show and tell will automatically be expelled.

5. The Bible does not endanger the world
It is the assholes that take it out of context for their own political gain who do. It’s the same argument that “guns don’t kill people…people kill people”.

9. But the rapture isn't even in the Bible...
That concept was made up out of thin air by some fundie in the 1800s.

10. Depends on how it's used and which parts used.
There are parts of the Bible (New and Old Testament) that read like fiction and fairy tales. But there are also practical sections like Proverbs and where the virtues of love, bravery, redemption, and charity are highlighted, even if they are within metaphor and allegory.

The Bible becomes a weapon when it is forced upon nonbelievers and held out as infallible Truth. Add in some halfwit with a seminary degree who claims that HE is the only one who understands the translation and has THE message. Take all and that and codify it into law where nonbelievers can be persecuted, prosecuted, and punished for not being Christian or the RIGHT KIND of Christian.

There, my friends, you have a religious totalitarian society. A theocracy free and clear from interference by the government or its citizens.

12. The Fundie Agenda
is contrary to the Bible. Although He refused to seek political power, Jesus was a liberal and a revolutionary even by today's standards.

My obsersvation as a resident of JOklahoma (transplanted not native)is that most fundie followers are mostly simple, misguided, uninformed folks who are being manipulated to further an agenda (an observation that offers an explanation for but does not excuse their behavior).

The leaders who use and abuse them, on the other hand, are evil incarnate. And, yes, these folks most definitely endanger the world. They may do so in the name of God but the Bible itself is evidence that they do not speak on His behalf.
