Edwards effort to raise awareness of poor lauded
I thought folks might be interested in this item from last Sunday's edition of Foster's Sunday Citizen, the daily newspaper in Dover, NH.:

Edwards effort to raise awareness of poor lauded

To the editor:

Sunday's editorial is a striking example of the type of snide cynicism that has become all too common in our political system.

Sen. John Edwards is to be commended for his efforts to ensure that the fight against poverty is a national priority. By discussing the need to help the working poor and near-poor accumulate assets, he shows a grasp of this issue that transcends the old, stale left versus right debate.

While the members of Foster's editorial board may be blissfully unaware of those entangled in the poverty net, I am glad to see that someone of Sen. Edward's stature has decided to put the issue front and center.

Instead of making snarky assertions about Sen. Edward's motives, Foster's should offer a constructive alternative. That's the way to advance the debate and go about the business of improving the lives of thousands of New Hampshire families.

Rep. Peter M. Sullivan

Manchester
