A must see DVD: Tying the Knot

I just finished watching this and I've got to say what a powerful and moving documentary about same-sex marriage. It could change the mind of someone opposed to same-sex marriage because of the heart-breaking stories about the struggles of couples and when one is left behind after the other dies.

This is a fantastic documentary and I can't recommend it enough!

3. What changed my mind from "it's okay if they marry" to

"we HAVE to allow them to marry" is when I saw what my brother went through when my brother-in-law died 9 years ago. My brother had NO rights to make any decisions, even though they had been together for 12 years. Jon wanted to be cremated, but Florida law requires the written approval of next-of-kin. His mother didn't want to sign the paper, until my brother was able to show her 2 different pieces of paper in Jon's handwriting where he wrote that cremation was what he wanted.

I have always referred to Jon as my brother-in-law, because he was so much more than my brother's SO. He was part of our family. Shit, now I'm teary-eyed - he was a great guy and I miss him!
