Should Company Trucks have Political Bumperstickers

Today while driving through Irwin PA I see a Cingular truck with a Bush/Cheney sticker. Now I have heard of political candidates who have gotten in loads of trouble using their vans to distribute signs..etc Then I see this truck and it makes me sick.

Funny how a Philly paper is getting lambasted because an ad of their's has a Casey headline...and the Republicans say its illegal...Yet I continue to see company trucks with political bumper stickers endorsing republicans...

1. Guess it depends on the sticker.

My son's boss loved the 'Kerry 04 a President we can salute with more than one finger' sticker on my son's truck enough that he requested (and was given one) for his company truck. But it's a small local company, does that make a difference?

2. I think it's a terrible idea

Putting a political bumpersticker on a vehicle implies that the driver of the vehicle holds the advertised position. On a company vehicle, that may not be the case.

Putting a political bumpersticker on a vehicle also implies that the owner of the vehicle holds the advertised position. Again, that may not be the case.

Sometimes, an individual franchise owner will use a personal vehicle for business purposes. If so, that person should have magnetized bumperstickers and business signs so that there is no confusion. I know that I am less likely to do business with someone who is advertising a political position at the same time as their business. I prefer to do business with people who can put partisanship aside in their individual dealings.

3. My company and personal truck are the same

since I am a self-employed business owner, and company of--ONE! So my Kerry/Edwards and Quagmire Accomplished bumper stickers will stay put.

4. Just before the 2000 election I saw a state owned vehicle (NC)

with a Bush bumper sticker. I immediately called the Governor's office and complained and gave them the tag number.

A few days later I went by the office where it was parked and the sticker was gone, gone, gone. Don't know who the employee was but hope they were gone, gone gone also.

5. Covenant Transport has "It's a child not a choice"

on the back of all their trucks. Not sure where they are out of, but I see them on Connecticut highways all the time.
