Will Gas Prices hurt Republicans? Freepers don't think so...
Anyone want to guess who they blame? No, not Bush/Cheney and all of the other republican oil company whores.

There are some interesting posts though.

I doubt that the intelligent electorate is that stupid to believe that ANY president or politician in general can do anything about high gas prices. DU excluded............

To: jasoncann

This is a really stupid line of attack. Gas prices might suddenly plummet, which will leave them in a lurch. Or, it is possible and likely that since there are 3 years before the next election - Americans will get used to the gas prices.

(And not so likely, but possible - Americans will probably realize that the President has no control over gas prices. Energy policy, yes. Gas prices, no.)

Will GOP pay for high gas prices?

I doubt it, but if they want to reimburse me I'll take the check.

--------------------------

To: TXBSAFH

Yes they will. The basic truth of the matter is that the party in power is held responsible of teh economy. If good, they get cudos. If not they get whacked

The economy is doing fine, except for the gas prices, and what's a democrat opponent going to do to offer a solution.

BTW, it wasn't the gas prices that did in Carter it was the gas lines(which there are none today).

My personal opinion, these high gas prices are a blessing in disguise, for they help promote alternative energy sources.

Americans are mad as heck about soaring gas prices, and Democrats hope they will take it out on the Republicans who control the federal government in next year's midterm elections.

No. Gas prices come and go. There's also more demand in the summer. We heard the left bitching last summer, too. No one cared.
If the Gas problem were to get to the point were it was during the Carter(D) years, then they'd really be upset! Until then. I'm not concerned about it.
Just lower gas taxes - end of problem.

This is a really stupid line of attack
Agreed. But the Media is throwing everything they can all at the same time.

Biggest problem in the US right now (deep breath): gas prices, layoffs, wealth gap, War in Iraq, WMD, lies by the president, Cindy Sheehan, Return of Jim Crow, Europeans hate us, federal deficit, trade deficit, corporate profits, Supreme Court, Christianity, Northern Spotted Owl, etc.

By the time the 2008 election cycle really swings, some of these might look like a problem, and the media will say: we've been saying this is a problem for literally years, and what have

I fear you're greatly overestimating the average person's ability to reason. Otherwise, how'd we end up with two terms of Bubba.

"Will GOP pay for high gas prices?"

Uh, yeah, and so will democrats.

The libs say anything done today for increase drilling and exploration will take at lease a decade to have an impact. So, simple extrapolation from the dems reasoning, means that today's energy crisis is Bubba Klintoons fault for doing nothing ten years ago.

--------------------------

To: jasoncann

What would the Democrats do to curb prices? They would investigate the oil companies and their profits, Earnest said.
This one item says more about the Democrat approach to dealing with life's challenges than anything else.

As someone said in an article that was posted here on FreeRepublic yesterday: The Democrat Party doesn't need a bunch of new think-tanks -- it needs some credibility and competence.

Literacy is your friend. Try spell installing a spell check. It's hard to take what you say seriously when you can't even write up to the level of the average 7th grader.

That last one is priceless.

1. It is hurting them
It is gas prices, I hate to say it, even more than Iraq which has caused Bush's approval ratings to nosedive. Though together they are a powerful combination.

"The Democrat Party doesn't need a bunch of new think-tanks -- it needs some credibility and competence." And it's the Democratic Party you Moran.

5. Truly amazing.
They hold Clinton accountable for a multitude of bad news so far removed from the power of the Presidency, it baffles imagination. Yet they hold their own leaders unaccountable for consequences within their power because "nobody can do anything about it."

These folks have been done in by the corporate propaganda. Their ravings are similar to those of cult members defending their leader.

These people are SO GULLIBLE that they can be convinced that good = bad

6. We DO have control over the energy policies...
But which president since Carter has dealt with reducing our need for oil?

NONE

OF

THEM

(unless you have substantial proof; but the 55mph speed limit revocation was enough to lump every prez since Carter into the same pot.)

7. Seems to me Carter took the blame...
If you are in power, you get the blame. That's how it works. And, yes, people are blaming him already.
