Lou Dobbs: Lobbying against America
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/11/lobby.america/index.html

(CNN) -- There's no denying both political parties in Congress are now owned lock, stock and barrel by corporate interests. Our nation's elected officials in Washington have formed a partnership with the corporate supremacists and special interest groups in an effort to drive profits to the bottom line of U.S. multinationals at the expense of hard-working Americans.

2. Lou's not bad, but
I wish that every program didn't begin and end with a screed against those pesky encroaching Mexicans. Lou's got a lot to contribute, especially as he's become more vocally opposed to Dubya's disastrous policies, but I had to stop watching because of the endless editorializing about immigration.

Illegal immigrants may pose a problem, but I can't believe that they're the only (or most significant) problem. I can't believe that Lou thinks that, either.

3. Yeah, I agree
I do think he goes after the undocumented workers too much. He should focus the bulk of his immigration sections on the corporations that exploit them and enslave them.

5. Amen!
How many years will it take? We are sold out so completely, our standard of living is tumbling so precipitously, I expect the middle class will not recover in my lifetime.

May I be proved wrong!

7. Personal maids and construction workers

are not solely employed by large corporations, in fact their contribution to employment of undocumented workers may be a relatively small percentage barring evidence to the contrary.

8. Very true.
As long as they're paid fairly, I have no problem with it at all.

6. Let's be clear about this...
Let's be clear about this: Calling these greedy people "lobbyists" simply because they convene in the hallowed lobbies of Washington is akin to calling parasites "bodyists" or viruses "blood-streamers." What they're really doing is selling out American workers and hastening the decline in our nation's standard of living and quality of life.

9. Auction house...

"When the Speaker's gavel comes down, it's intended to open the People's House, and lately it's looking like the Auction House,"

...what a stunningly vivid image. Makes me want to have some "fun with realaudio(tm)" and dub auctioneer rap over a video of the energy bill vote.
