My Dad used the words "stupid republican" in the same sentence
My Son's future mother in law, (crackpot republican) hired some folks to paint the house she's selling. When my Dad asked if they had insurance and such, in case they got injured (not out of altruism, out of lawsuit protection)Hey reply? "They're illegal aliens, they don't exist, so they can't sue" My Dad didn't even argue with her, but was disgusted with that attitude on every level. So, evidently to settle his cognitive dissonance, he came up with "that stupid kind of republican" He never hires anyone that isn't bonded with insurance. He was telling me about it, then he said "I might agree with you that george bush does some stupid things, but we are absolutely right to take out evil people in the world"(Meaning Saddam) I asked if he's heard of Darfar and then the argument was on. He brings up "everybody thought there were weapons of mass destruction" and "John Kerry voted for that war" Poor man has no ammunition, because he has no correct information.--he enjoys his little arguments with me but changed the subject QUICK. But this is a huge step for him. Another little crack in the facade of insane RW agenda. If my DAD can start to see even a glimmer of light, the repukes have problems indeed. Just thought I'd share.

1. Employing illegal aliens.
If they damage her property she can't sue either, they don't exist. These are the same people who fuss about illegal immigration. I know a christian extremist(my new name for holly rollers) who uses them for his landscape business. He says he has all the paper work taken care of. Yeah, right. He drives them in from the Texas border. They live in tents and use the bathroom facility at the little league soccer complex he built. He drives them back to the border after the landscaping season is over. What a christian way to treat other human beings.

2. That "they don't exist" really bothered me
This woman is supposedly a devout Catholic. All about church and all that. Pretty disgusting

3. If she's a 'devout Catholic' then
she is NOT excluded from knowing how the church views certain social justice issues.

5. I agree
My mother converted to the Catholic church when I was about 12, so I learned about the church on more of an intellectual level. We were baptized, but I never really got into it. I do, however have some knowledge. So this women definitely doesn't represent the Catholic church to me in any way. Quite the opposite, in fact

4. Yeah, and those employers may be in for a rude surprise
The firm I used to work for handled longshore claims for on-the-job injuries. One of the outfits providing day laborers on the docks would go to the open-air labor market and get a pick-up bed full of undocumented workers every day.

The inevitable happened, and one of those guys got hurt on the docks. It took a while (longshore claims always do), but eventually the company had to pay this guy for his permanent total disability. He moved back to Mexico, and the insurance carrier has tried on several occasions to stop the disability payments, but they got hauled back to court again and again, and incurred penalties and interest. It was a tough case to win, and even tougher to carry, but the result was worth it. The insurance carrier continues to pay benefits to this day, even though the company that originally hired this guy went out of business years ago.

As a rule, undocumented workers are reluctant to enforce their rights. But if they find a lawyer who will stick with their claim and get it before a judge, courts generally take a very dim view of wealthy folks who try to chisel their help.
