For those boycotting CNN, they're covering Robertson bigtime --

I saw an earlier post that Daryn Kagan-Limbaugh's report wasn't acceptable (I missed it), but the coverage I've seen from time to time through the day has been extensive and informative. I saw an interview with the head of Americans for the Separation of Church and State; Bruce Morton just went through, with clips, some of Robertson's wacky and/or outrageous comments through the years; and there's been coverage of Venezuela's response. And, of course, there's a poll, and Cafferty's asking for feedback.

Not bad, when you consider they could have ignored this international incident Robertson has set off with his big Christian ( :sarcasm: ) mouth.


ON EDIT: Wolf now has Carville and a Repub on. Carville says Chavez is very popular in Venezuela, and Robertson's comment will cause "grief" for the U.S. not only there but in the rest of Latin America and worldwide. The Repub says the remark was "off the cuff, flippant, silly." Wolf actually called him on it, and said it was not a "silly" comment.

3. Bob Dole sneered at Robertson, marginalizing him.

In Blitzer's interview with Dole, Dole didn't sugar-coat it. At the same time, he said "While it'd be hard to make Chavez a sympathetic figure, Robertson has helped do it." (Dole doesn't 'approve' of many folks, at all.)

This is, in my opinion, an example of how the fascist right (including Dole) benefits from having the extreme, whacko right being energetic and vocal. The fascist right only expresses moderately negative opinions about them when asked, and they don't bombard the Robertson sycophants with 'friendly fire' -- welcoming their support. Indeed, Dole is enough out of the seat of power at this point, that the negativity is even more softened. The maladminstration is VERY moderate -- merely saying they don't agree.

The left (and purported left) would do well to learn from this, nurturing a "far left" to make the mainstream left appear more moderate. Without a vocal and visible "far left," even someone as moderate as Kennedy gets to be cast as some kind of extremist. He's not even close!
