Arctic melt likely to worsen, scientists warn

"WASHINGTON - The rate of ice melting in the Arctic is increasing and a panel of researchers says it sees no natural process that is likely to change that trend.

Within a century the melting could lead to summertime ice-free ocean conditions not seen in the area in a million years, the group said Tuesday.

Melting of land-based glaciers could take much longer but could raise the sea levels, potentially affecting coastal regions worldwide."

The pictures in this news story make it especially clear how big the problem is. What effects this melting might have on our future is unclear. Perhaps Florida underwater and Alaska as a temperate state?

1. Now correct me if I am wrong but....

Isn't there a theory that long before a century from now, that all the fresh water melting will screw up the ocean currents and actually cause the earth to cool? That is what scares me now.
