why is ABC Family still airing the 700 club?
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 07:37 PM by Halliburton
after Robertson used their airwaves to call for an assassination attempt on another world leader, I find it highly disturbing that they haven't made any action towards cancelling Mr. Robertson's outlet of hate-speech.

3. Kids watch that network
They promote it as a family-friendly network. But there is nothing family-friendly about someone calling for an assassination attempt on another world leader.

6. True
So you still live in that alternate reality where rules apply to power? Know of any places to live there?

4. It's a business deal
Apparently, part of the sale when ABC acquired the network included a contractual obligation to carry the 700 Club in perpetuity.

5. But there must be some line that cannot be crossed.

Do they have to broadcast calls for murder to be committed? Is a broadcaster allowed to air calls for murder of a head of state?

Who advertizes, either on the 700 Club or otherwise on ABC Family?

7. It was in the contract, since Robertson started the channel
that eventually became ABC Family.

Ugh.

"Although our strategy has some similarity to some of our competitors, we are content obsessive," Eisner said Monday at a press conference announcing that The Walt Disney Co. would acquire Fox Family Worldwide Inc. for $3 billion in cash and the assumption of $2.3 billion in debt.

The deal adds the Fox Family Channel cable network to Disney's portfolio, which already includes ESPN, the Disney Channel and stakes in A&E and Lifetime. Fox Family, which Disney plans to rename ABC Family, reaches about 81 million cable subscribers in the United States.

A twist in the deal is that ABC Family will continue to show the 700 Club and other shows made by Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network, which originally started the channel.

As to what could end this arrangement, some contracts are ironclad; want to bet that multi-millionaire religious extremist maniac-moron Pat Robertson made sure this one was?

10. Considering the caliber of lawyers at Robertson's disposal...
I wouldn't be surprised if it was.
