What do you think we've been doing in the world
for the last century? Or in this country since 1492? Or since humans began using weapons?

It has to just be me, but I don't get the uproar over what Robertson said. Certainly isn't a new idea. It's as "American" as apple pie. I know, I know, we have "rules" about killing people. Is it that he said it on TV? Is it that he was open about it? Is it that he's a religious man?

Our center of power(the arbitrary lines drawn on maps known as America) must expand. That's what power does. If you need to be killed(or forced to do whatever) to allow that to happen, that's what gets done.

We've done it before. We'll do it again.

1. I read, "Confessions of an Economic Hitman" and learned a great deal,...
,...about what the U.S. multi-national corporations have been doing, along with the cooperation of certain elements of our government (intelligence and military agencies).

People like Robertson should lose their shirts and be thrown in the streets for exploiting humanity without one compassionate thought as to the impact.

2. The question should be what are we doing "to" the world.

3. Pat Robertson hides behind religion to preach murder.
I wrote to ABC Family Network, asking that The 700 Club be taken off because of his urging assassination. I suggested that if they didn't do something about such preaching, then it would be clear what the
'family' in their name meant: organized crime. In noted that children likely heard him preach murder; and I asked whether advocating murder didn't go beyond freedom of speech.

4. An ostensibly Christian religious 'leader'
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 08:11 PM by mcscajun
doesn't advance any cause, either that of religion or his country, by openly advocating murder.

Continuing violence through the ages doesn't ever mean any of it is right, or should be condoned. When a public figure makes what amounts to terroristic threats against the leader of another nation, it's not surprising that an international firestorm follows.

"Our center of power" does not have to expand...we do not have to become any kind of empire.

I certainly don't want to live under one.

5. it's not as if I want those precedents to be followed
Also, the Conquistadors did a lot more evil than they're generally credited with, too (even though people generally count it as genocide up-front).
