White House: We don't give a flying fuck
From tomorrow's NYT:

...

Republican officials said they were confident that the firestorm would blow over relatively quickly

"The general view inside the White House among senior staff is that this is going to create a few rocky political days, that it's mainly the Democrats pushing it and that if all the Republicans stay on board, the story goes away," a Republican worker with close ties to the White House said."

3. Yeah
There was spin about Watergate. I looked through All the President's Men looking for GOP spin about it.

Pat Buchanan was quoted as saying "All you had against Nixon was this puny little burglary." No wonder McGovern lost, etc.

17. oh, yeah. all the time. up until about 10 days before he fled.
'one year of watergate is enough.'
'i am not a crook.'
'...blah, blah, blah...the job that I was elected to do.'
'...the extreme step of impeachment is not warranted. i trust that in the days ahead this perspective will prevail.'

and behind closed doors, but on tape: "I don't give a shit. I want you all to stonewall, cover up, anything if it will save the plan.'
(yes, he did say that.)

5. I don't think the media is going to give up on this
They like a scandal too, it sells papers. As long as the story has legs and people keep talking, the repukes can clench their butt cheeks all they want, but something will give. You have to hand it to these fascists, they can control their own, but there are some moderate repukes. When it comes time to vote their country, the moderates will give up the regime for their future. A lot of these pukes are also up for re-election, they aren't going to be put in a spot of protecting traitors. You can see the ads now. You think Max Cleland got screwed, and he didn't even deserve it, think of what the Dems could do to these repukes for protecting traitors in our own country.

9. If all the Republicans be Yes Men and Kneel to the King!
everything is fine but if they want answers they are going to have to have a Special Counsel and it is obvious that the White House can do anything it wants Declare war for No reason and can do ANYTHING without repercussions

This is the Moment where we find out are Republicans servants of the evildoers or Americans

But no matter what the Republicans have been exposed to WHO THEY ARE!

10. This one won't go away unless the two perps
one of whom we now know is Rove, and the other probably being Cheney, confessing and taking the rap, resigning and hoping for a pardon. They are behind on this story, and hoping it will go away is silly wishful thinking. I had dinner tonight with a republican former case operative (during and in Vietnam). This was the topic of conversation. Bush cannot get elected without taking care of his base on this issue. The paleo-conservatives are pissed, maybe even as pissed as we are.

15. Eh!!!! You read the rules again.
1. The subject line of a discussion thread must accurately reflect the actual content of the message.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread and the entire text of the message which starts the thread may not include profanity, excessive capitalization, or excessive punctuation. Inflammatory rhetoric should also be avoided. Exceptions may be allowed for threads about our political opponents and/or policies which we generally oppose.

23. Let me spell it out for you.
White House: We don't give a flying fuck

This implies that the White House actually uttered those words, When in fact it had not, Which breaks rule 1.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread and the entire text of the message which starts the thread may not include profanity, excessive capitalization, or excessive punctuation. Inflammatory rhetoric should also be avoided.Exceptions may be allowed for threads about our political opponents and/or policies which we generally oppose.

The operative word is may. Which is the slippery slope.

I posted inflamatory rhetoric with foul language in another thread and the thread was locked. BTW, it was aimed at our political opponent. It just depends on who is enforcing the rules, which is the problem.

But, hey.. None of you patriot act loving wanna be liberals seem to mind, so be it.

25. I guess I just don't share your hysteria over the new guidelines
I am with the majority of people here who support new guidelines because I am sick and tired of inflammatory and flame bait topics that get started by people like you. Naturally, you object. This is no surprise to me, and also I've seen your little digs and barbs about this peppered all over other threads in the last couple days.

The whole purpose of these common sense guidelines is to improve the quality of discussion in GD. There is just no reason the initial post in a thread cannot be framed in such a way as to facilitate a quality discussion without offending or inciting hostility in others. Jesus H fucking Christ on a stick, we are talking about the subject line and the text of the initial post - you can cuss and piss and moan and be as rude as the current rules permit in the rest of the thread.

And if you want to compare my opinion about what basically boils down to common sense and good manners to the patriot act, well, then, I guess that says a whole lot more about you then it does about me.

27. You're in the majority so you must be right.
I see where you're coming from. The majority is always right, to you, not to me. And what you may consider common sense, I consider lazy. And yes, any little rule that is left up to someone else's discretion to judge on what is right or wrong is a slippery slope. Where will it stop?

Do you actually think that these rules will be the end? Do you think that people like you will quit whining just because you got these rules? You are wrong. And my little inflammatory post today was a test and an example of how a post will be judged based loosely on a moderators interpretation.

If I can't come here and blow some steam off about reich wing politics, then I don't want to be around a bunch of milque toast wanna be liberals. Common sense?! We are moving far from it.

It is so much more simpler to ignore a thread that you don't want to read. but some people want their damn parents around to control their reality, Well i don't.

30. I've been ignoring all the candidate bashers for weeks
If people want to duke it out over their candidate, what the hell, let them. I can ignore them. I like having the freedom to curse if I want to, to use 30 exclaimation points if I feel like it, I like having freedom period. I'm voting no, I just think it will destroy the freedom we enjoy here.

32. That's what it's all about. Freedom
And that's what I'm standing up for here. The freedom to be adults. If I want to cuss in my post and bleed my wounds on what I thought was a dem friendly board, I should have the right to do that without interference.

If these rules go into effect, it will change the face of GD. And I will probably leave. I may thinking of starting my own liberal web forum, with an emphasis on freedom.

16. I wish I could me more optimistic...
Nothing seems to stick to the slime coated covering of this administration, and it's not for lack of trying to get the truth out about this miserible bunch of crooks, liars and thieves.
No wmd, no imminent danger from Suddamn, no uranium purchased from Niger, on and on and on.... and the cabal keeps rolling along.
It was no more than a month or so that I thought that Blair would be out on his ass in Great Britain, I was sure a resignation was forthcoming.
I've had to face the hard facts, the public just doesn't give a damn, and yes it's going to take public involvement on the back of the press everyday to make sure this story doesn't get bumped off the news by "new developments" in the Laci Peterson or Kobe Bryant case.
I try not to lose all hope, but it sure is getting harder and harder.

its apex. What will be the Last Straw?? The Triggering Mechanism??

Who knows but the weight is getting unbearable. Soon the lies, the distortion, and the deception of the far right media will be made known and come to be one of the causes of the dismantling of Pub Pysops.

22. In the house of cards.....this is THE card to bring down the house.
I mean - look at WHY the leak was made: to discredit and defame Wilson, who shot holes in the WH's lie that they didn't know about the forged Niger/Iraq uranium claim (at a time when the WH said they would "sure like to know who forged them and why the WH didn't know it was a forgery"), which takes us to the president's 16 word lie in the SOTU, which takes us to not having justification for invading Iraq, which takes us to "Why the FUCK are we bankrupting our country to fight an illegal war based on Bush lies."

The Plame leak is like a thread that, if pulled, takes us all down the exact right road.

Unforunately, itll be did George protect us from the terrorist, and the boogieman and we STILL must go after N korea, Iran and Syria, cuz they hate our "freedom."

should that fail, there is Ken Starr & Henry Kissinger to bail them out with an "investigation":--the crafty devils have come prepared!

As for me, I'm hoping the CIA fires back with the thermite grenades they terrorize Cuba with, followed by Bush sending the military against Langley--two birds with no stones, and no innocent victims there..
