Is there a "Shadow Resistance"?
(Tinfoil mode, but in a positive way.)

We all know of the PNAC+ Cabal (where '+' refers to attached organizations and individuals).

What I was just wondering is, does a 'rebel alliance' (for lack of a better term) exist within the government?

If a collection of criminals have been seeded into power, is it possible that there is a group, however loosely connected, working against that group, without our knowledge?

If there is, I of course don't want any names - better they stay silent and clandestine. I guess I'm just curious if anyone else wonders this, too.

Shallow Throat" Tells How Bush Can Be Defeated in 2004
By Bernard Weiner

http://www.crisispapers.org/Editorials/bush-defeat.htm

Some sample paragraphs from this important editorial!

"For one thing, as I've been telling you for more than a year now," said ST, "quit paying so much attention to Bush -- he's just their front guy -- and focus on Cheney. He's so deep into scandal, hypocrisy, lying, corruption, the blood of innocents, that he should be the obvious target. And probably will be the first member of the Administration to be impeached, if he doesn't resign first, 'for health reasons.'

"If he goes, believe it or not, there's even some wild talk about Bush naming Lieberman, the rightwing Democrat, as his running mate on a 'Unity' ticket -- not as crazy as it sounds. Get some conservative Democrats, and Jewish voters, to move into the Republican column, taking key votes away from whoever the Democrat candidate is. And Lieberman is such an ambitious suck-up, he'd probably take the bait.

"But let's keep our focus here. Cheney and Rove are the nuts & bolts of the operation. Cheney is up to his ears in vulnerabilities, everything from his continuing ties to his old company Halliburton -- despite his denials, he's still getting huge payments from them, and guess who got the large contract for Iraq reconstruction, without having to submit a competitive bid? -- to his refusing to turn over key documents to Congress about his secret energy-policy committee, which may well have dealt with getting control of Mideast oil by military means.

"As the media finally are reporting, Rove probably committed a felony by being involved in the outing of a covert CIA agent, the wife of Ambassador Joseph Wilson. Those two, Cheney and Rove, are just waiting to be plucked -- especially Rove, since the CIA, made to seem the fallguy by the Bush Administration, is out for revenge. If you're smart, you don't piss off the spooks and high-ranking ambassadors. The Bushies aren't smart. They're stonewalling the CIA-outing issue and hope to bury it in Ashcroft's coverup office. Go get 'em!"

6. ARG! The tinfoil, it burns!
Hehe. Nice comment re: Bell ;)

And yes, like the CIA mentioned above, you do not want to piss off the military. BushCo has infuriated the guys with the guns and the guys who can track their every move.

That's just plain stupid.

4. I don't think it extends very high up the chain, except
evidently in the CIA (which may be enough), but there have been many reports of resistance to the Bush boys in other institutions like the Pentagon and the State Department. Rummy's purged much of the military brass who wouldn't fall in line, but I believe there are a lot of people biding their time, documenting Bushista abuse, whistle at the ready, waiting for the opportune moment.

5. I'd heard some faint murmurs on that.
I forget where, but I read a report (really hearsay, but who knows) that a good number of military people have been biding their time before taking down the traitors.

8. Many problems in the Pentagon
and this may be where it started. Rummy has pissed off so many top brass by getting rid of people and putting in his civilian, pseudo-intellectual PNACers. These people have stepped on too many toes.

Also, there's a lot of in-fighting between the Powell faction and Rummy faction. I've read accounts that Powell has not talked to Rummy in quite a long time.

9. there are plenty of career employees...
...in all departments who put the mission of their agency ahead of the push-pull of their politically appointed masters. The State Department is notoriously proud of its own traditions and reputation. The career employees are a cut above, culturally. They will resist a president whose actions jeopardize diplomacy.

10. "Intrepid" is a book....
I came upon last week that tells about a man, Sir William Stephenson, who more of less initiated and coalesced information...and initiated the secret service in Britain and the US. I'm at the beginning of the book but it is a factual account that describes the start of intelligence/resistance in the same way that you wonder about...sic.

What I was just wondering is, does a 'rebel alliance' (for lack of a better term) exist within the government?

This book is making what's going on now really interesting to me. I have to admit, I never thought much about conspiracy theory until I started reading the internet...now, I'm making-up for lost time!

The book is "A Man Called Intrepid" by William Stevenson

An aside, I now wonder if the wonderful Neal Stephenson (the man who wrote "Cryptonomicon") is related to "Intrepid"...it just seems like he is because both books mention enigma and cryptology...
