Two men being retried for the hate killing of a gay Greenacres man pleaded guilty Monday in separate deals that came against a backdrop of juror misconduct.
Bryan Donahue's and William Dodge's guilty pleas abruptly halted their ongoing murder trials — the second for each in the April 27, 1998, beating death of Steven Goedereis. An appellate court overturned their first convictions.

The case ended with a touch of the dramatic in a West Palm Beach courtroom as Donahue suddenly agreed to plead guilty to second-degree murder and a hate crime after Circuit Judge Krista Marx delayed the jury's entrance to resume the trial because he was crying. ...

Donahue, 23, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, which he will serve at the same time as a 30-year sentence he got for stealing Goedereis' backpack — effectively meaning he will serve no additional time for the murder plea. ...

Goedereis was walking home after drinking with friends when the two teens beat and kicked him almost 30 times in the head and face, prosecutors said. Dodge stomped the 29-year-old waiter so hard that his sneaker left an imprint on Goedereis' forehead, authorities said
