Visible Origami speculates on esoteric and metaphysical concepts applied to real life.
Smoking Mirrors rants and attempts to burn through the suffocating blanket of misinformation, materialism and neo-con fascism that stifles humanity.
If you want to get up in the charts take a gig book with you when you perform and send out a weekly newsletter. It does wonders- probably even if you aren't any good (grin).
Les Visible recorded four albums with Les Visible & The Critical List; the assorted personnel on those albums can be found at the site. These albums are wacked out socio-politcal satire and can be heard
hereHe has done five albums of softer material that reflect a variety of styles and they can be accessed on this site, just click on MP3 Music in the menu ABOVE and TO YOUR RIGHT.
AND ALSO THERE IS A NEW ALBUM ON 9/11 AND RELATED FASCIST ENTERPRISES;
9/11 was an Inside Job PLEASE COME BY AND CHECK IT OUT!
Why this name?
Well, I used to be named Les Crook when I lived around Dupont Circle in D.C. and in Woodstock, NY and Philadelphia. When I ran afoul of the law, which wasn't uncommon the name didn't help.
It just appeared (and no, that's not meant to be ironic)and because no one ever knows where I am; including me. We should be allowed to make up our own silly questions.
Do you play live?
Did play live a lot of places but primarily on Maui. Now I mostly focus on recording and releasing CD's. Occasionally I play different venues in Europe at this time; Germany, France, Spain and Portugal to name a few.
How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?
It's the greatest thing to come along. It's breaking the stranglehold of the satanic record companies and the days of good lyrics and music as a revolutionary force may well return.
Would you still sign a record contract with a major label?
Only if I got to deal with a human being. The odds on that aren't good. I had some of the usual 'very bad' experiences with unscrupulous producers. I'd like to sign with a small independent label with good distribution; at the same time I'm managing to sell quite a few CD's on my own. Maybe I just need to go into a radio station and hold the D.J.'s hostage until the press shows up and then I can just direct everybody to my monster download site where the songs are a buck a pop; similar scenarios are under consideration at this very moment. Quick! Call Homeland Security.
Band History:
just too much to go into and it's all in the past anyway. I never have understood how this is of any use to anyone except journalists who just make it up anyway.
Your influences?
Sam Cooke, John Fogarty, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Willie Nelson, Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Stevie Wonder, Warren Zevon, Mark Knopfler, George Benson, The Beatles and soul music. This is just not comprehensive and unfair to all those who just didn't come into my mind while I was writing it.
Favorite spot?
The Kingdom of the Heart
Equipment used:
My trusty beautiful Martin guitar, Les Paul Custom and the ever stable and aging Ensoniq EPS Performance Sampler (now junk), courtesy of Steve Worthy (he gave it to me). Oh yeah and my Peavey KB/A 100 Amp and excellent AKG D 330 BT microphone, plus lots of high tech software that I don't really know how to operate. My Roland Discover 5- boy we are going to see some changes soon- maybe some of them will even be musical.
Anything else...?
listen to the songs. And, on a more ominous and personal note; don't be fooled by the Media...the amount of lies pouring across the airwaves are like one giant tidal wave of bullshit. What I mean is, some very very bad people are running the U.S. right now (it's the reason I left). You'd better wake up and vote them out or you are going to be very very sorry.
