DSM -- a Republican signs on
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 04:29 PM by wryter2000
Randi reporting that a Republican named Jim Leach from Iowa is signing on to Barbara Lee's resolution to investigate the DSM.

Edit: I was too excited to look up how to spell his name.

3. Most excellent!
The wall is cracking. Some rethugs have joined Rep. Meehan's "exit strategy" resolution, too!

21. Start here
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=158&topic_id=4713

There's enough info to do an advanced search of the archives and/or Thomas. When I posted details about the resolution it got little notice.

============================================

I have posted information about Rep. Meehan's Iraq exit strategy bill in the past, so I won't go over that again. This is posted for anyone who will be in the area to hear Rep. Meehan speak about it.

Received by email:

Greetings Department of Peace campaigners!

Congressman Marty Meehan (Democrat, MA 5th District) will speak at
First Parish in Bedford, MA (On the Common) on Sunday, June 5th at 12:30 p.m. He'll speak for 10-15 minutes, then Q&A. Meehan comes to us at the encouragement of Bedford's Brian Hart who, since the death of his son John in Iraq, has made truth-telling his lifework. Meehan and Hart have made common cause in exposing unwelcome truths about the war and dissenting from both pro and anti-war orthodoxies. After recently visiting Iraq, Meehan has prepared a draft White Paper that outlines an exit strategy, including a withdrawal of most American troops within 12-18 months.

6. Now we just need two more Repubs in the foreign relations committee!
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 04:37 PM by Idioteque
Jim Leach is a good, moderate guy. He votes more like the CT Republicans than the other Repubs in his state.

Jim Leach on the Issues

It should be noted that Rep. Leach voted against the war, so this isn't unexpected.

16. what's the point?
his position on Clinton is not related. if anything it shows that he treats both sides the same.

17. He was pushing VERY hard for Clinton to be
impeached and jailed. He had an agenda just like the rest of the right-wingers, so I'm very skeptical of the man as compared to someone like Walter Jones (the former Freedom Fries guy).

10. The jaded part of me thinks...
he and the other Repubs who've suddenly had an epiphany are only doing so because they realize the ship is sinking fast, but I suppose we'll take it any way we can get it.

18. My father says he's a good guy
My father generally votes on the issues.. has been known to have voted Republican once or twice has told me that Leach is a pretty decent legislator. As he was not in our district in Iowa, I really didn't pay much attention.

20. That's great. Jim Leach is a rare Republican...he's not a fascist and
warned the party years ago to keep away from RevMoon.

I think we should work on Hagel now for the Senate Intel Committee to sign Kerry's DSM letter.
