Ed Schultz caller: "Bushco should take out Castro". Ed Shultz: "I agree".
Heard it this afternoon.

After a good 3-3/4 hours of Ed's support for Chavez's announced program to sell low cost oil to poor Americans, support for Chavez position on unionization and the condemnation of the ridiculous threat of assassination of Chavez by Robertson, Ed agreed with a Miami caller that BushCo should take out Castro.
:wow:  :argh:

Ed doesn't have audio archives of his show. Probably to protect his waffling from being called out.

I gave an accurate summation of the gist of the caller who said that Castro should be taken out.

Nice of you to call my post full of shit.

38. I Heard It As Well And...
I believe your post is accurate. Sometimes I wonder if that guy is a plant. Sometimes he says some stupid shit, like your example. Sometimes he says nothing when a sound thrashing is due. Take the caller from yesterday who said, and this is paraphrased "you people (meaning us lefties) need to just let it all go because this is all Gods will and it's all going in accordance with Gods plan. We can protest and cry all we want but * is ordained by God and it will all work out in the end." :wtf:. At first I thought it was brilliant sarcasm but there wasn't a punchline, if you will. I think Schultz even asked the caller if he was serious. When the caller replied in the affirmative, Schultz let him go on some more. When it was over ED said "thanks for sharing your views". That was it! It wasn't as if Schultz let the caller go on to show his audience how unhinged the Right has become either. He got steamrolled and had nothing to say about it.

42. So, you're a "Castro supporter" too (see post #37 for a laugh).
I listen to Ed often.

As I said in my original post, he was doing great with his support of many of Chavez' positions on energy and unions and then he did a 180 in the last 15 minutes (by supporting the caller's point about taking out Castro).

Republican Lite, go along with war,go along with the energy policy, go along with no child left behind . Their platform is not that of a true opposition party. They offer no new Ideas. Ed is so ever happy to bash Dean as the DNC chairman, and then promote Hillary as a contender. He is always giving ground to the repukes.

3. IIRC
Shultz is a recovering republican. Maybe a caller will explain to him that while Castro is a dictator, he's no threat to the US and assassinations are generally not good foreign policy (not to mention I believe illegal at this point).

13. Schultz is also a Radio voice that will attract many Limpball's Viewers
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 08:07 PM by KoKo01
over to our side. He supported Cindy Sheehan and he supported Voting Reform when no one else was listening to it. He's supported alot of good stuff and does give voice to our Democratic Candidates who appear on his show. It's much better than C-Span's Washington Journal seems to be doing for us these days.

He's Not Franken, Randi or even our more "intellectual" radio voices who stream online...but he's really good at what he does...reaching the America that Limpball's has controlled for so long.

He's a different voice and sometimes to us more "intellectual or savy internet folks" he can sound "clueless." But...Ed Schultz will draw in more folks to our side than most of his critics would imagine. I'm glad to have his voice out there. And, some DU'ers honestly don't listen to his whole show before the jump to conclusions and post him "out of context."

30. Respectfully, all Ed is doing
is drawing people to his side of things. The few occasions I've listened to his show were painful. Maybe it's bad luck or I always catch him on a bad day but I've heard him rant about Howard Dean. I've heard him kiss Joe Liebermans ass and a few days ago he kissed the ass of some woman who was a member of the Minutemen. Never mentioned the Nazi flags they fly at their rallies. Just happy they were stopping the flow of illegals. Sorry, I just can't in good conscience support him.

of his show. He's had Conyers on and Rangel and Louse Slaughter whose pushing for voting reform and one of our biggest progressive voices.

He acts like the average clueless Rush listener in that he takes the part of the uninformed and asks questions that the "uninformed Mainstream Media or Limpball's listening "would ask. If he sounds partisan about Dean or seems to suck up to Lieberman you have to ask what is your average neighbor who is "clueless about politics" likely to ask any of these folks if they met them?

He's not everyone's cup of tea but he's not a Right Wing Hack in Liberal Clothing, either. :D He's a voice we need. We have a lot of Americans who are just waking up to what's been done to them...and Al Franken and Randi just aren't going to get their attention. They are used to Rush telling them the "troof" and for them to decide they can't deal with Rush anymore is a first step. It's baby steps to get to the fact that the whole Repug Administration is Crooks, Liars and Thieves. Who is going to believe that when they thought they replaced "Clinton Crooks, Liars and Thieves" with "Saint Bush?". They aren't going to change their beliefs suddenly...they need a "tansitions." If Schultz sounds like Rush and folks confuse him with Rush they might just stay with him for what he says and get hooked.

9. Thanks for the clarification
IF we are to take out Castro because he is a dictator, we should also take out the "president" of China and pakistan.

Of course, someone brought up yesterday how when it's a dictator the US likes, he's a "president", while otherwise it's a dictator.

He was talking about how when he went there a couple years ago, he was suprised how many people were taking medical/vitamin supplies. He didn't qualify it in any way. Didn't say the reason WHY was because of the embargo. The caller is married to a Miami Cuban, so you can imagine the context....

31. I've been to Cuba many times. What is sad is the American ignorance of it.
But, that is because the US government violates our rights by banning American's unfettered travel to Cuba.

Cuba is a wonderful place. Poor, but not sad.

But the original post didn't change my mind either. I don't like Ed Schultz. I do not like his voice and volume. I do not like the conservatism that seeps out at times.

I do not trust his motives. I think he is in it for the money and the glory of Ed Schultz, and the largely untapped market (when he started) of "liberal talk" is a way for him to this. But hey, if it brings the Reagan Democrats back to our side finally then so be it.

Ed spent a whole show ripping a broadcaster for advocating assassination, then he agrees with a caller who said that Castro should be taken out by Bushco.

I heard the whole show. Ed was doing just fine until the second last caller from Miami. Ed did an about face on the last 2-3/4 hours of his show.

It was not a logic based rhetorical statement from the caller.

Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 09:09 PM by Mr_Spock
The caller was comparing the taking out of Saddam with Fidel - another dictator who represses his people. Ed played along with the reasoning because it follows if someone is a believer in the Bush doctrine then Fidel should be taken out as well. It was a totally fabricated scenario - you must have gotten emotional and missed the point.
