Medical staff volunteers urgently needed at Camp Casey
I was asked to spread this word to get out any volunteers.

"Please get this out all over the place immediately.

Camp Casey 1 and 2 both need medical staff volunteers in the form of RN's and Doctors. Please bring your own equipment and be prepared to deal with bumps and bruises, twisted ankles, heat stroke, lacerations, and RattleSnake Bites.

Please try to cover Friday night, Saturday and Sunday or find help. Currently there is only one medic on scene.

Also needed, one battery for Keith's bus from FoodNotBombs.net smile.gif
It's a big old school bus. So if you happen to have a battery lying around or can purchase one to have sent up there quickly Keith would really appreciate it.

Also needed....BODIES! Lots of them! So get your ass in gear and get to Crawford!

Sincerely,
Brendan

7. you know how life in the ditch can be :)
even Smudge the Camp Casey kitten had to go to the vet.

Smudge is back home in Louisiana now. He belongs to Cindy's legal team, who are back in the ditch with her tonight.

10. If I was in Texas, I'd be there in a heartbeat
Not an RN or anything but I would help out in any way I could.

I'll send good vibes out to Crawford. I know they will get the supplies and support they need.

Goddess Bless Them.

14. That's what I'm saying...
A rattlesnake bite would require immediate transport to the nearest hospital with antivenin. And I don't know about Texas but, where I live, the stuff is always in very short supply.

16. Keep in mind...
Texas is the only state that has all 4 poisonous snakes. The rattlesnake, of course, but at least you might get a warning. We also have water moccasins, copperheads, and coral snakes. And fire ants. Lots of fire ants, and they hurt!

27. Please tell me it's not true
Is there really a swimming hole at Camp Casey, and did people really get in the water? Is this like a pond, with that muddy looking water you can't really see in? There are water moccasins in there. Depending on the size of the pond, probably turtles that bite, too.

If it's a pond, with that kind of water, I'd never get in,either;or all those years ago, my mother didn't want to bother having to watch me in the water, and just made up those stories about the snakes and the snapping turtles.

34. at the nearby park
there's supposed to be a good swimming hole, but the advice is to go swimming with others because the moccasins like to cool off there too.

:scared:

not gettin' in that water, nopers, not me.

17. I've always lived in fear of seeing a rattlesnake
So far so good, I've been here off and on for almost 18 years and have yet to see one. I did kill a snake I thought was a coral snake once, only to find out it was a harmless relative. I felt really bad about killing it since I don't kill nonvenomous snakes.

21. You probably mean a milk snake.
I used to have four pet milk snakes. They are harmless, beautiful creatures.

15. Just to follow up

I can't make it, but if anyone can, I would try to bring a vial of epi (cheaper than epipen), syringes, mabybe D50, and a few bags of ringers lactate and IV supplies for heat stroke. I'd also inform the Texas Medical Borad / Nursing Board that your there and try to get a temp license otherwise your malpractice won't cover you -- although if provided for free the good samaritian laws may protect you.

18. I can't make it, but
I STRONGLY STRONGLY recommend that somebody going to Camp Casey bring along a bottle of homeopathic Arnica. I don't know whether it's available in Texas, which is kind of backward in terms of natural medicine (and in other ways), but I'm sure it's readily available in health food stores in most parts of the country.

It works on bumps and bruises and any traumatic injury like a dream. It really is amazing stuff.

If you can get it in a 200c potency, one dose (a couple of tablets) ought to be enough. If you can only find it in a 30c potency, ask anybody with an injury like that to come back for a few more doses, several hours apart, away from food. (Also ice, elevation, wrapping, and rest, of course, if it's a sprain.) You will be amazed at the results.

20. Most of all it is the heat. Bumps, bruises, I can't really imagine.
I spent the weekend there and one day last week and will probably be back this weekend. Rattlesnakes? I've not seen one yet. They fear us far more than we fear them. Water Moccasins, yes, you could not pay me to jump into the falls at this time of the year, as beautiful as they look and are.

All good advice. Fear not rattlers though.
