America West gate agent declares Texas a republic
I was in Las Vegas last night and today (business .... I personally abhor gambling and find the city tacky, but that's for another time).

As we were boarding an America West flight in an effort to make our escape from America's shrine to tackiness, the gate agent was yammering about America West's merger with US Air. He was telling the assembled masses all the places the new airline will fly .... it went something like this ......

'We will now serve over 200 US cities and destinations in Europe, South and Central America, and Texas.' Obviously he was grinning as he said this. The lady who was working the flight with him asked him why he said that. I was close enough to overhear. He said 'they act like an independent country over there and then send their governors to try to convert the rest of us.'

Draw your own conclusions about this man's politics. :)
