Proposal: DU Paper

How it would work: Every day take a few of the top "Greatest" posts and put them on paper. (Original stuff written by DUers and ok'ed for publication, to avoid copyright problems.)

Distribute in diners, bus stops, coffee areas at work, laundromats, college campuses, bars, waiting rooms, beauty salons / barber shops... anyplace where people hang out.

Use PDF (Adobe Acrobat) format so it would be easy to print out and it would look nice. Get some DU graphic designers together to pick fonts, a logotype, etc. A few of us could do the layout on our own machine (Quark, PageMaker, InDesign) then upload the result as PDF.

This would be a project where we could all cooperate - and even people who aren't DU Activists could help out from time to time if they have access to printer and some paper and some spare time that day.

I think if a few million Americans got to read DU's Greatest posts everyday, it would rock the nation.

1. sounds like a good idea, but..

a lot of the content on the greatest page is copyrighted. so i'm not sure how we can do it, without violating copyright laws.

2. But a lot isn't

(I edited my original post to handle that.) Only include original DU material. A lot of DU posts are really good - way better than the boring lies in the media.

Maybe just have a box you could check when you post: "I authorize DU to republish this on paper."

or perhaps we can have a special folder/forum for people to post their own material, and whatever is in that forum, gets published.

3. Interesting idea...

I'm one of the ones who posts his own material...my stuff IS copyrighted. To me. I usually post what I consider the best on my blog.

5. If it could be formatted to fit on the sheet like a mini paper..

that would be great.

I like this idea because there is such a gap between the internet informed people and the rest of the lost sheet. Those that never get off the Yahoo and Google sites. We got to reach out! This paper would be great.

6. Get up a business plan for it

There are enough people, and there may be enough content, and there surely is interest, but there has to be a cogent business plan, a base and leadership to follow through with.

mail me and I can point to how to develop a business plan, but within that there needs to be the leadership to follow through and money from somewhere.
