5. "old hippies" what makes you say that?
"They still have this crazy notion that by just being peaceful and maybe toking up or something like that – it's like an ostrich with its head in the sand – maybe the danger and the bad guys will go away and leave you alone, which is not gonna happen."

He's one of us! If you get a chance give his song "Deja Vu (All Over Again" (from 2004) a listen. It compares the current war to the Vietnam war. A great tune. :toast:

27. Late 90s, actually ...
it earned some headlines for its kitsch appeal, with boone covering songs like "enter sandman" ... but, as one of the critics in my hometown said, boone did everything he could to colonialize rock and roll, to strip it of its energy and reappropriate it from its black roots, and he should not be humored in any way shape or form, no matter how kitschy

It actually should have been the album that slapped some sense into him. Upon it's release he lost his radio show and a shitload of gigs in Branson. He should have realized the quality of people who made up his audience.

Alas no...

14. He's crazier than a shithouse rat....
Quote:
Now at age 71, Boone has become politically active with a group called the "60 Plus Association," a non-partisan seniors advocacy group which supports an abolition of the death tax.

"Taking people's hard-earned savings from them when they have the poor judgment to die," lamented Boone, "the government steps in and takes half of everything they had already paid tax on and saved."

Gush Pfleghmball should sue him for plagerism. That's one of El Gush-bo's favourite things that he whips up the Dildo-heads with, even though most of his listeners will NEVER have to fear paying the "Death Tax"

This "Death Tax" is not collected on estates worth less than $500,000, remember?

When all Pappy left you was a shotgun, coon dawg, a $175,000 hospital bill for his Last Days and 4 broken-down Pontiac Trans-ams on blocks behind his leaky single-wide.....

15. Has beens trying to score points by sucking up to idiots are tiresome
I disagree with Samuel Johnson when he said "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel"; I think religion is. Still, he's definitely onto something, and washed-up celebrities just seem to come out of the woodwork at times like these to be righteous and try to get some attention. You'll notice that they usually tend to be those who were second-rate stars even in their prime, like Ted Nugent.

36. As a teenager my sister looooved Pat Boone - I liked Ricky Nelson.
My sister (one year older) got very, very angry with me. I just kept saying that there was something odd/unnatural about Pat. She kept telling me I was just trying to be different. I kept telling her I was different and was not trying to be so. This is not a good thing in the middle of Kansas.

45 years later. Sister is a repug. Well, you know what I am.

My sister is a fake christian, I am agnostic.

My sister loved Reagan and loves Bush - hated Clinton. I hate the first two, love the third.

My sister supports the war and supported the Vietnam mess.
I never did/have.

My sister is just like every other member of my family - we are not close and it all really started to become obvious over Pat Boone.

40. Serving mammon, not God.
The WorldNetDaily article notes that Pat Boone has become active in seeking the abolition of the estate tax, which of course is paid by by relatively few estates and generally by the extremely wealthy. With all the worthy causes in the world -- like, oh, saving the literally thousands of children who die due to preventable causes each day -- Boone sticks his name on the attempt to abolish a tax on the wealthy.

Toto, I don't think we're in the Gospel anymore.

47. hey! . . . my dad once had a drink with Pat Boone! . . .
funny story, actually . . .

back when Pat Boone was first becoming known for records like "April Love" and "Love Letters In The Sand," my dad was in the Army and stationed in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area . . . this was about the same time that rock 'n roll was making its mark, with new artists like Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry hitting the charts . . .

Dad came home one day and reported that he and some fellow officers had been at an Army-related event in Buffalo and decided to stop into a local watering hole for a drink after it was over . . . he reported that when he sat down at the bar, none other that Pat Boone was sitting right next to him, white bucks and all . . . guess he was performing that night at some nearby venue . . .

"Now I can appreciate HIS music," says Dad to his 12-year-old son. "Not like all that rock and roll junk YOU listen to. And he was a nice guy, too; even bought me a drink." . . .

and from that day forward, my dad was a big Pat Boone fan . . . :)

65. Ohh I read it
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 07:45 PM by Generator
What utter tripe. First of all, Cindy is 48-just a few years older than I. We missed out on the sixties-being children then and all. So we weren't exactly protesting the war then-oh and it wasn't 20 years ago pat-try 35-40!

Next..this philosophy that really believes that killing Iraqi's makes me safer is just insane. IF Saddam had had WMD and IF he handed them to terrorists and then IF terrorists used them on our citizens and then BECAUSE our government did nothing-let them in the US, had survillance, but didn't bother to stop them, then yeah they could do something. But 9/11-the official story-happened by a few terrorists that were determined to do what they did with the help of oh I dunno Pakistan and Saudia Arabia. Not suggesting we should necessarily go to war with them-but at least it would make sense. Being in Iraq does nothing. It doesn't stop an extremist from getting on a plane tomorrow or a subway and blowing some people up. EXPLAIN how killing a terrorist in Iraq kills them ALL-explain how killing a few stops the next generation from getting on my son's plane in 2055.

It doesn't and it couldn't. It's child's thinking and I'm so tired of being led by children who only know fear and not common sense.

Oh and you want to kill OBL or whomever may have had anything to do with 9/11-be my guest. I'm not a peacnik in that sense. But I'm not an idiot. I don't want my child's death avenged by killing somebody that had and never could have been any danger to him. It's insane. Is this all America is-kill somebody because we are such losers that we can't get the real bad guys? I ask you America.

71. Old hippies?
Cindy is, at the most, in her late 40s. Therefore, when hippies were all the rage she would have been a young teenager, maybe 14-15 (like me). I'm pretty sure she wasn't smoking the ganja etc. May I add, Pat Boone... what a douchebag.

Moon the Boone, then have a video of them mooning him.

77. It seems to me that all the fundies I know have become worse and worse
as time goes on. They've been listening to Falwell and Robertson and all compassion has left them.
