TIME: 10 Questions For Bill O'Reilly
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101031006-490678,00.html

DO YOU REGRET PUSHING THE LAWSUIT AGAINST AL FRANKEN?
Not at all. This man is being run by some very powerful forces in this country, and we needed to confront it. I was ambushed at a book convention. He got up in front of a national audience and called me a liar for 20 minutes. President Andrew Jackson would have put a bullet between his eyes. Franken's job is to do exactly what Donald Segretti did for Nixon — dig up dirt on people. He is not a satirist; he is not a comedian. He's someone who wants to injure people's reputations, and I think people have got to know that.

WOULD YOU EVER WRITE ANOTHER MYSTERY?
Absolutely. Mel Gibson optioned Those Who Trespass a few years ago, long before the Passion controversy. If Gibson can get this movie made, I have a sequel 75% written.

This explains the whole O'Reilly/Gibson thing to me

IF YOU HAD TO NAME YOUR PARTY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
The Pursuit of Happiness Party. Every American should have an equal chance — underline the word equal (done Bill) — to pursue happiness.

24. O'Reilly lied on Howard Stern's show this morning
At the beginning of his interview on Stern today O’Reilly claimed that he knew Howard in high school. Yet O’Reilly grew up in upper middle class Westbury and Howard (as he often reminds listeners) grew up in mostly black Roosevelt. Not only were they not in the same town, but Stern went to public school while O'Reilly went to a private school according to the Washington Post. Can't O'Reilly say anything without lying?

9. Heard about 5 minutes of O'Reilly-spew last night....
...he never refuted ONE thing Franken wrote or said.

Not one.

The non-denial denial: "They may question our ancestry but they don't say we're wrong" (Jason Robards as Ben Bradlee in "All the President's Men")

12. Rhetorical question:
Did Andrew Jackson have a reputation for psychopathic violence?

Don't worry, I think I know the answer, otherwise he wouldn't be on the notes.
So why does O'Reilly have such a slanderous opinion of a well-respected American president? Isn't it a bit, umm, un-American?

Alternatively, especially given the 'run by some very powerful forces' remark, is it genuinely possible that O'Reilly is delusional? That's not a rhetorical question - I'd like any professional opinion on that, given O'Reilly's behaviour over the years.

13. He is probably referring to the fact that....
Jackson fought more than one duel, which was common at the time. He is twisting that, just like he does everything else.

15. Andrew Jackson story
As you students of American history will know, when Andrew Jackson was President, SC organized a Nullification Convention over the question of tariffs, and John Calhoun was the moving force behind it. This was a genuine Constitutional crisis, with Jackson threatening to send the Army, etc. to SC if the convention were held and a nullification ordinance passed.

Any way, Sen. Benton was a friend of both Jackson's and Calhoun's, and went to Calhoun in an attempt to mediate the crisis and prevent bloodshed. Calhoun is alleged to have said to Benton that "I've heard Andy Jackson said 'I shall lead the Army into SC and hang the first of them (the nullificationists) I shall lay my hands upon'. Surely he cannot be serious?". Benton's reply: "When Andy Jackson speaks of hanging, those of us who know best him go in search of rope."

The 'crisis' ended shortly thereafter. :P

20. Creepy. He seems correct in some of what he says.
Or at least to the point where I agree with him.

"HOW POLARIZED IS THE COUNTRY THESE DAYS?" His answer to that is suprisingly reasonable.

"IS THERE A CORE OF SANITY OUT THERE?" It almost looks like he's right, up until the part about "that's who I play to."

Never thought I'd find myself not snorting in disgust at Bill O'Reilly constantly.

23. I just picked it up today
Our mail is delivered in the hall outside our apartment and I read the O'reilly interview over my last cup of coffee this morning.

Yeah that is quite a cover.

One DU'er on Monday said his newsstand had already sold out of them

Another mentioned ~"Think of how many people will see that for months to come laying around Dr. and Dentists' offices."
