In today's Arizona Republic, I read that 17 major military bases are on the docket to be closed. I THINK I read somewhere that 14 U.S. bases are opened or being opened in Iraq. Was I hallucinating or are these Iraqi bases for real? If so, what is going on?

3. I don't think it's fair to name your thread after yourself.
What if everybody in the world did that?

8. Well, if one person can do it
then everybody should be allowed to do it.
I don't think anybody should be allowed to
get away with it, but if they do, then I am
certainly going to do it. I am not going to be
the only one not doing it.

19. What an odd word: Trendsetter.
To set a trend. One who sets a trend.
I suppose bobbieo is a trendsetter of a sort.
I think I perfer to be in the in crowd where
you can look out and point and laugh and then if
the thing you're laughing at catches on you can
say no that wasn't me laughing at it I was saying
what a swell new trend it is that is being set.

6. Bases in Iraq
If this is true, I can figure it out. George Orwell's "1984' is becoming a reality!!! Looks like the Bushites had this all figured out before Iraq was even invaded. So, they won the war but not the peace. They don't care - they don't have to. They got exactly what they want and to hell with the the mortality rate.

5. It is mentioned all the time
Edited on Thu Aug-25-05 01:02 PM by firefox
It may take a few days for another article to mention the bases, but it is something that has already been covered hundreds of times here at DU in the last year. Just keep reading and the subject of the bases in Iraq will be part of the mix of threads.

When we left Saudi Arabia, the Empire needed bases to project American military power throughout the Middle East.

11. Yes, you read that right...
Wonder how much of the 'reconstruction' money for Iraq is going to our new military bases... As for WHY, who knows?! Bush has his political capital so I'm figuring he'll spend it on some new boondoggle war...

Who needs accountability!? grr

BTW, Welcome to DU!! :)

18. Bases In Iraq
I just joined DU last week - Guess I have been too busy with my writing and freelance editing. I'm not quite sure what is wrong with using my real name. I like it!!!! I'm proud of it - so there!!!By the way - am I a male or female? No smartass remarks necessaty here as I know what and who I am. BUT, it is amazing the number of e-mail ads I receive, personally addressed to me, for both male and female products, approaches, etc.

21. I think you'll find that at DU...
people could care less about your sex; it's all about ideas and information.

BTW - I don't think anyone was attacking your name (Bobbieo), I think they were just confused over your using it in the Subject line. Most people put a blurb about their topic in there. A lot of people use that to guide them thru the hundreds of posts here... :)
