GREER -- A Greer Police Department investigation into a June 10 traffic stop has cleared both officers, according to police Chief Dan Reynolds.

A woman, one of two people stopped by police, complained that she and her husband were stopped because they had a Druid bumper sticker on their car.

The American Civil Liberties Union has claimed the stop violated the couple's constitutional rights.

The passenger, Debra Jan Gainey, filed a complaint with police saying that a reserve officer inappropriately spoke to her about his Christian religion during the stop and later in a letter.

2. I would bet we don't have 15 cops in the entire country who
know what the bumper sticker means. The officer probably asked the passenger what a druid is and then is "required to witness" by his religion.

4. Suspended licence, no insurance, incorrect tag
But the stop was about religion. :sarcasm:

No one should have to put up with being "Preached Religion" during a traffic stop. Or any time you are a captive audience. But sometimes cops pull people over for failure to comply with the law.

6. There's something strange at the end of the article
Sez Debra Jan was ticketed for "allowing an unauthorized driver."

Apparently, they pulled these people over supposedly because of their druid bumper sticker (or, probably more accurately, because the reserve officer ran the plate through the car's computer while they were following this guy, it came up "pull driver over" and the rollers went on), ticketed the driver for three things, then ticketed the passenger for "allowing" him to drive.

Sounds like a revenue enhancer to me.
