better look more closely at the record: Carter was a good man to be sure, but above all else he was a politician:

"1976, April 3: Answering a question about public housing, Carter says that people should be allowed to maintain the "ethnic purity" of their neighborhoods. Despite the controversy which ensues and the anger of many in the black community, Carter sticks by his wording over the next few days before apologizing for his remarks on April 8." http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/carter/timeline/

Now, why do I bother to post this? Because it might, perhaps, maybe, give some of you Kerry bashers another perspective on the Iraq War vote and why politics comes into consideration in every single word and action of a politician. Make no mistake, I think Carter was indeed a good man, but he sometimes had to compromise principle to achieve the better end. Same is true of all politicians, Kerry included.
