Well folks, the worst is over for us in South Florida in terms of Hurricane Katrina. Where I reside in Miami (the Kendall area), we were just pelted with just non-stop solid hours of sheets of torrential rain from approx. 9:00 pm to 3:00 am. A lot of flooded areas, some roof damage, downed trees/limbs/fences, and lights (street and traffic). The electricity went out around 9:00 pm for about a million folks in Miami-Dade, Broward County , and West Palm Beach. The electricity came back to my neighborhood around 5:00 AM. But, there is still lots of folks without power (720,000 in Miami-Dade alone)! Broward County has over half million folks without power. Driving around anywhere with downed street and traffic lights and tree limbs is precarious and down right dangerous to say the least. Anywhere from 10 to 20 inches of rain fell on South Florida. Where I live we received anywhere from 15-20 inches of rain. That is almost 2 feet folks! And they say we are to expect even more bands of rain until Saturday. Poor Sweetwater area which is closeby, it must be like a 'swimming pool' there.
