I used to rant and rail, when I posted on boards that had both conservatives and not, supporters and not, that it was their egos. I remember that, and I guess I'd have to say I was pretty insulting even, sometimes. But, in a way, I felt like the justifications for the war and other BushCo led initiatives (like SS, Bankruptcy, gay marriage) especially after a year into the war, were an insult to ME, to my intelligence.
I was highly ridiculed for worrying about what this war would do to our soldiers and about the draft, in the run-up to the Iraq war. It just wouldn't last long enough to affect my kids, or cause a draft, I was told. Won't last that long, won't hurt that many soldiers. So many folks really did believe it. But the war is still going on, and the draft is still a danger, far, FAR more so now, our soldiers have been run through a meat grinder, and what good did all their talk do? Got us into a hopeless war, that's what.
From my point of view, I figured a lot of people would be changing their minds, if the war didn't go well, and how could it not be a bitter pill? I know it would for me.
I don't mean to be insulting to you at all though, I'm glad you changed you mind! From people like me, I admire someone like you that will change their mind and say so. It's probably people just like you that have the most to offer to affect a change. People like me, that always disagreed, are probably not who the opposition even WANTS to admit they agree with.
If they agreed about that, they might find themselves expected (or unfortunately convinced) to agree that other liberal issues might be more reality based. So, it's not a road most war supporters want to go down, because though not all conservatives may support the war, I'd lay money that the vast majority of the war supporters are conservative.
But in this, it doesn't matter if you're conservative or not, because lies are lies, and conservatives don't deserve to be lied to any more than liberals. They don't deserve to be used more, either. BushCo uses anyone they can.
What I can't figure out is how anyone that gets close to this admin thinks they're safer that way. Thinks it's a wise choice, siding with the winners? They aren't safer; never trust a liar. They don't seem to understand that, once they signed on, they lost all rights to disagree or even leave peaceably. They lost every right they ever thought they had. They go from friend to foe in a heartbeat, and watch each other fall, and still side with these monsters? I wonder, sometimes, do they get scared, the people supporting this admin? The lawmakers and their aides and all the people that surround this admin, do they really think they have any special part or any measure of safety, working with mass murders? I wouldn't even want them to know my name, much less my address, my family, my history, anything. Seems a little touched at this point, to trust these people.
Too long in the writing here, thanks if you read it. I think I must do this only for me ;)
