HEAD'S UP NORTHERN GULF COAST - KATRINA IS STRENGTHENING RAPIDLY!!

I posted about 45 minutes ago on this, but strength and predicted strength at landfall have changed significantly since then. So I'm putting this up as a public service to all in possible harm's way.

Short version: What was thought to have been a minor hurricane in the northern Gulf in a couple of days is now predicted to be a major hurricane - 125mph Category 3.

This one's dangerous, folks, because it's unpredictable. With all the twists and turns it's making (and is projected to make), and with the rapid strengthening, it could be anywhere from a Cat 2 to a Cat 4, anywhere from New Orleans to Appaliachicola.

KEEP A CLOSE EYE ON THIS ONE IF YOU'RE ANYWHERE BETWEEN NEW ORLEANS AND CEDAR KEY!

Maybe it's simply the fact that I've been through two of these in less than a year, or maybe it's because this one seems so unpredictable; but I feel much more uneasy about Katrina. Ivan and Dennis, at least, had predictable paths and you knew what was coming.

I'm somewhere between New Orleans and Cedar Key. The unpredictable ones are the worst. I recall Andrew, what a wobbling powerful pain in the ass he was. Katrina is getting that shaky profile as well.

I'm in New Orleans. I checked the satelite images last night, but haven't as yet today. At least my husband will be in town for this one. I hate when he's out of town and there's a hurricane headed our way.
