Guess what -- nobody here is stopping you from doing anything!!!
There have been threads here today with people railing on everything from SUV's to McMansions to Discount Warehouses. Now, anybody here who knows my posts knows where I stand on most of these arguments.

However, there seems to be a decent number of people who are complaining about how we're all trying to "stop" them from owning an SUV, or buying a 2500+ sq ft house, or spitting on the sidewalk, or what have you.

In order to clear things up, let me say this -- NOBODY ON THIS BOARD CAN STOP YOU FROM DOING ANYTHING! This is an anonymous internet discussion board. If you take issue with something somebody else says, then either offer a counterargument or just leave it be. But don't claim that they're somehow trying to "stop" you from doing anything.

Nothing they say has any real influence over whether you are or are not allowed to do ANYTHING in your life.

2. THANK YOU!
VERY MUCH! A thread I posted earlier was locked and the Moderator wrote that my topic had been debunked and that if I indeed find it posted on .........MSM........(LOL!!!!!)I can repost. Until then, locked.

LMAO! People on the thread were so pissed that I would repost something that had been "debunked" and said that I was spreading lies.
I'd just like to say that I am flattered that so many think my post would somehow change the course of DU.......if not world perspective LOL!

I agree, what I post should not influence public opinion, however I am flattered.

6. Part of the problem was that the exact same question that you asked...
had been asked by another poster, and answered, only hours before your post. It was probably no deeper than the 2nd or 3rd page when you submitted your post.

People sometimes have a short fuse when they see the same question asked over and over. That issue in particular is a hot button, just because it has been discussed at least twice a week for the last few months.

4. PEER PRESSURE!!!!!
Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 02:43 PM by LizMoonstar
I suppose it's more the knowing that if you do something, the members of a community you were proud to be a part of will hate you, even if you're doing whatever it is for good reason. Nothing is ever good enough for anyone, especially here, and it's hard to just blow it off.

We all want to be approved of, and when people whose opinions you respect tell you that you are a horrible person and should go die somewhere, it sets up some nasty cognitive difference between your potentially good reasons for doing whatever and their reaction. Are you a good person, or not? Are they right about you?

5. a question
Not actually in line with the previous post, but.Believe it was here the other day someone was inquiring as to the status of the riverbend blogger girl. I don't recall that there was ever any real information posted. I'd appreciate anyone giving us whatever they might have on the situation.I consider that young lady an american and Iraqi national treasure.

7. The last post I have from her was asking for prayers
for Khalid, who'd been picked up by security forces.

According to Raed, Khalid was released after a few days. That's all I know.

8. I actually sent her an email the other day
just hoping to hear something back, I told her I was part of a discussion board and we were all concerned about her and her family.

If I happen to get a response I will certainly post it here.
