Who else finds the 'Allegiance to Bush' thing a little unsettling?

"Thou shalt not bash Bush" seems to be a new Commandment that some RW'ers are pushing.

"We owe it to the President" - Legislators are talking about owing Bush, if anything, it is Bush who owes everyone else all the power he has.

"The world will rally behind Bush" (whenever there is a Terrorist attack, but when there's not, it is proof that Bush's thing formerly called the 'war on terror' is working)

Many people seem to be forsaking the pledge of allegiance they took every day when they were children, it seems as though Bush is the person that must have allegiance sworn to.

Frankly, I find it kind of scary.

I think some of the loyalty and "rallying" behind Bush** is simply because of Democratic opposition. In other words Republicans would rather follow Bush** into hell rather than admit that Democrats are right!

I wonder how far Republicans will go in standing behind this a-hole? Would we, as Democrats, have already bailed out if Bush** were a Democratic President? I think so...we bailed on Johnson.

If I remember correctly, a bunch of us Dems were ready to "jump ship" on Clinton, UNTIL the Repubs ganged up on him and then it was a matter of defending him no matter what because we couldn't let the Repigs win.....I think something similar is going on now.

Wittingly or not, the Republicons have recently dusted off their Vietnam-vintage playbook and seem to be enthusiastically deploying a lot of its more disturbing strategies. The good news is, of course, that it all failed miserably to rally public support for what had become an obvious fiasco, based on an equally obvious misreading of regional politics. The bad news is that the country was bitterly divided then, intentionally, to a degree, by rightwing political opportunists, and a lot of those old wounds still haven't healed. This time around isn't going to be any easier, IMO.
