More People Hating Bush Does NOT Equal Democrats Winning Elections

We need to focus on Democrats winning elections.

By the next national cycle, 2006 Congressionals, you can bet your Aunt Fanny that any Republican running in a district that's not already locked down will have positioned himself a great distance from Bush and this war.

We need to be focused NOW on presenting the Democratic alternatives - not simply what we are against, but what we are FOR.

We are FOR opportunity and fairness. We believe that people who work hard in America should have a decent standard of living.

We are FOR working together to tackle problems. We believe that we can solve our health care and education crises when we make those our priority.

We are FOR clean air and water.

We are FOR being America standing once again as a beacon of freedom and opportunity to the rest of the world.

So yeah, that's WHY we're opposed to corporate give-aways and tax breaks for the rich while average wages are dropping, and WHY we think it's wrong that billions of dollars have been poured down the rathole in Iraq, and WHY we're angry when the former lobbyists for polluting industries are put in charge of the agencies that are supposed to "regulate" those very industries, and WHY our hearts break at seeing many of our best and bravest patriots being sent across the globe to kill or be killed, in a country that never attacked or threatened the United States. Because we have better PRIORITIES. Because of what we're FOR.

Find a campaign and start spreading the word for it, now. In 2006 the Republican factory will roll out a new model of shiny-toothed (corporate-sponsored) Poster Boy Republican in an attempt to CLING to power. Don't let them.

Neo-cons are on the run and you are right that this is just a skirmish and not a election victory. Liberals need a clear message to American. It is time to give this country back to the people. Corporate America is tearing us apart at the seams by shipping jobs over seas, over charging for gasoline, the highest pharmaceuticals in the world, rising health care costs and more. How much more can we take? Lobbyist reform is a must in this country because the people can not be heard over the flow of cash to the politicians by special interest groups.

We need clean elections: all votes counted, and campaign finance reform. I would add media reform in there as well. These things are needed to make our democracy work.

I guess the frustration that prompted my OP was the gloating. Yes, we can stick a fork in GWB, he's done. But he's still going to be living in the White House (when he's not on vacations longer than those enjoyed by the French) until 2008 and no longer, no matter what. Getting a Democratic majority in Congress, with as many of those as possible being Democrats who share our progressive values, is still going to take a lot of effort.

I too have disillusioned friends - one who considers himself "conservative" (and I'm talking Texas here folks) but was quick to correct me recently when I referred to him as a Republican. Not a Republican, but a conservative, he clarified. But it's going to take more than idiot Republicans to get this guy to cross over and mark the box next to the "D." At least in the south, Democrats can start WINNING elections by offering more "mainstream" values, based on ideas like the schools should function and you shouldn't be able to poison your neighbor in order to make a buck. That's what we need to do.

Down here in TX, we don't yet have the luxury of choosing between a progressive Democrat and a DINO in most races. We get a gutsy long-shot Democratic challenger versus Tom DeLay or a Tom DeLay clone. Or we get Chris Bell (who filed the ethics charges against Tom DeLay) taking on our totally useless Republican governor "GoodHair" Rick Perry.

So here, it's pretty clear our job is to persuade people that the guy or gal with the "D" next to his/her name actually has some good ideas, and we should give him/her a chance.

Of course in a more Democratic area, then yes, by all means, replace the DINOs. Down here we'd just be happy to get rid the nation of the scourge of DeLay.

Hatred for him will translate into votes for the opponents of the repubs.

Right now, we concentrate on Cindy, peace rallies, and Junior's idiotic, pro-war policies. The big rally in DC is in less than a month. THEN we can focus completely on 2006. All of this will carry over to the election, anyway. It won't be forgotten.

The republicans hate Democrats. They trash us every day on Slimebaugh's show, on Faux News, on the 700 Club, and in right wing newspapers. Yes, we do need to concentrate on getting Democrats elected, but we cannot back down from the republiNazis.
