RUSH OFFENSE: I've made my feelings clear about ESPN's decision to add Rush Limbaugh to ''Sunday NFL Countdown.'' Here's an excerpt of a Washington Post review of Limbaugh's contributions last Sunday:
''Limbaugh got started by questioning the league's minority hiring policies. He made many valid points. After all, the Lions' coaching search this season exposed the league's rules as kind of silly. But let's go back to the baggage. To hear a guy with such an obvious right-wing partisan slant decry the league's effort to ensure that minority head coaches are hired smacks of the mess that is politics, and there's no place for politics in our great American game.''
This is exactly what I feared when ESPN hired Limbaugh. Maybe his take on the minority hiring rules were right on the mark. But coming from him, many people will dismiss it because of his political leanings.
By the way, couldn't Limbaugh have waited until Week 2 before he said something that smacked of partisan politics? Then again, there's a reason I referred to him in the past as a right-wing windbag.
