Serious question for law enforcement DU'ers
One time someone told me they quit a local law enforcement agency because there was too much "John Wayne" mentality and RW attitudes. Now, granted, I live in the South instead of Berkeley, so that's a ready explanation for this. Has anyone else had this experience, or is this a very rare occurence ?

1. I want to hear opinions on the WTO/FTAA/RNC protest smashings
Those are serious issues. What can be done about them?

2. It's true where I work
I've been getting harrassed by some of my co-workers about my politics (which I'm not shy about) for quite awhile to the point of blows nearly being struck. And yes, there's "John Wayne" mentality and a blinding ignorance about what's really happening in the world. Seems that most of my peers only watch Fox and listen to Rush, and most of those are lawyers! Bottom-line: For vocal dems or leftists, law enforcement is going to be a tough career choice probably regardless of where you are. I'm in Northern Calif. for godsakes.

3. My friend was a cop and a conservative Christian
Pretty much everyone in his PD listens to Limbaugh or some other RW lying sack of shit. For a while my friend was a big Michael Savage fan until Savage made fun of southerners during one of his tirades.

Other than that nasty habit, he's a decent guy and was a good neighborhood cop. Unfortunately, the new Chief has been trying to get rid of career officers so he can pay rookies less money. After several months of them constantly harassing him, he finally left.

The good news is he and his wife are both sick of Bush. They've told me that Bush isn't doing anything about the "moral values" stuff they voted for. They say he only cares about oil and his rich buddies. Gee, do ya think?

4. I used to work for a Sheriff's Office...
Definitely an "us vs. them" mentality ("them" being anybody who wasn't a cop).
