Protesters demand that FCC look into suspending/revoking Christian network
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 05:10 AM by Bluebear

WASHINGTON - Protesters rallied Friday outside the offices of the Christian Broadcasting Network, demanding that the Federal Communications Commission investigate whether CBN's license should be suspended or revoked over evangelist Pat Robertson's call this week for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Robertson apologized Wednesday for the remarks, but the Rev. Lennox Yearwood, president of Hip Hop Caucus, a grass-roots youth organization, said an apology is not enough.

"I was blown away that one Christian was calling for the death of another Christian," Yearwood said, raising his voice to the crowd. "That is beyond cruel. That is criminal."

1. Time for Robertson to spend more time with his family.
And get that overdue examination for his rock hard arteries.

2. Whatever
Robertson and his ilk are going to keep pulling the same crap. Say something outrageous, wait for the furor the apologize. Fly under the radar for a few months to a year, then fly off at the mouth again. These people are vile, vicious scum with no respect for humanity. Their apologies mean nothing, and they are going to continue behaving just as they have been until the day they retire or die.

3. That seems to be Pat Robertson's MO and of course what....
...Pat Robertson says, does or invokes in front of his TV audience is repeated and reinforced over and over again by his loyal and often many mindless followers, well beyond any retraction which Robertson does. In this case Robertson only apologized for his comments, but made no retraction. In fact along with his apology, he continued to justify and excuse what he said and in effect neutralizing the whole apology. The 700 Club's members for the most part still agree with and believe Robertson's original statement and will continue to bear ill will and hostility toward the target of Robertson's comment.

As far as Pat Robertson is concerned, it's "Mission Accomplished" and the millions of dollars of donations just keep rolling in. An IRS audit would be a good first step to begin the investigations.

5. Yeah, an audit would be helpful.
A review of political content and an examination of the tax exemption rules and whether or not CBN actually qualifies for tax exemption due to the non-religious nature of that content would also be helpful.

4. Its a cable channel IIRC
Keep the FCC out of cable and satellite.

I don't want them to have anything to do with it, no matter how crazy the fucks broadcasting are.

6. CBN is also broadcast
They're in terrestrial broadcast as well as cable and satellite. At least four stations on Comcast here in Philadelphia carry CBN programs; at least one is a broadcast station.

9. forget fcc, irs should get involved
i'd imagine 700 club is tax-exempt, no? if so, that status should be revoked immediately. clearly, robertson is using his religous organization for political purposes.

as for cable and religion, it infutiates me that i pay my satellite provider $60/month and get 5 channels of christian broadcasting for my money. on top of that i also get 5-6 channels of "home shopping network" type channels. glad that my monthly payment gets me so much access to jesus and great jewelry deals.
